XQIZT Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 I listed my 90gal drilled fish tank on Craigslist. I just lost interest in it and wanna get it outta the house. Listed it for a DEAL...literally 1/3 of what all the equipment and fish are worth...STILL I get people trying to talk me down....lol. Sorry....gotta vent frustrations somewhere. Any other fun/insane Craigslist stories out there?
ChargerMatt Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 I got my asking price for an iPod... baleee dat
XQIZT Posted April 6, 2012 Author Posted April 6, 2012 I got my asking price for an iPod... baleee dat Nice. I just got an email: "What's the least you will take for it?" Response: "What I have it listed for. Go price it out new and you'll see you're getting a deal." Thankfully, that was the 3rd email I got today about it, so if he doesn't like my tone, I'm ok with it. I remember old school garage sales. My mom had stuff on the table for a dime...and people would ask: will ya take a nickel for it? Then pay with a quarter.
goodmanXX3 Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 craigslist *shivers* i've heard stories of success and many many stories of shady business. i stay far away.
davidg Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 You don't need the tank once you get rid of the fish that you don't have time for. How much will you pay me to come and take it off your hands? The whole fun in buying off craigslist is to talk someone into giving you something for next to nothing. You have to be almost in the realm of almost totally unreasonable with price just to get 3/4 of what you want.
Z71_Denali Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 everytime i sell stuff on there, i clearly state the price is non-negotiable, if you try to haggle me down, i will counter with a higher price than asking lol if people ask why, i say i'm simply not in a rush to sell it, like 99% of people on there.
Team Adam's Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 I've only used CL a handful of times, and each time its put me in touch with some of the scummiest human beings to waste oxygen on our planet, after the last experience where the guy showed up and LITERALLY tried to steal the item I'm done with it. I'd rather do a yard sale every so often or give the items to goodwill.
Chewy Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 One of our old neighbors is selling their old Acclaim. 2000 bucks (too much IMO) They were offered the following from one person: 1000 bucks 4 Mickey Thompson wheels (not sure of size) and a full freezer of venison. lol I've sold a fair bit on it and love it. Heck, I found a starter for my 1979 JD 832 snowblower. WTH? I couldn't believe it. 50 bucks! Boo yah!
billawd Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 I flip stuff on cl all the time I meet people at walmarts or big shipping centers. I don't want these people know who I am or what I do or live. I bought a go phone and only use that number. A few years back I had a kid try and steel a set of Konig wheels with BFG tires. You just can't trust these people.

That phone idea is a good one if you use it enough. I do use a email just for that though so its somewhat the same concept.
BlueGenCoupe Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 I've always had more success selling stuff on kijiji. No matter where you sell stuff, your always going to get the Jerks that try and low ball you!
crowvet Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 I would respond with............ Yes I am open to offers, how much more would you like to pay?
GaryW Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 I tried to by a Trek 6.9 on CL. They wanted 4000 for it. everything was great till they sent me this fake link to Ebay Auto to pay for it and insisted that I send them Western Union to pay for it. Sent copy of link to Ebay and have not been on there since.
DaveVY Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 We tried to use CL recently to sell the 4Runner. CL seems to attract people who are looking to steal or scam someone out of something, some of the same who seem to visit garage sales. The only offers we have had are offering a couple thousand less than what we could get if we sold it to CarMax! I did find CL useful a few years back when the Wii first came out. I was unemployed and found that if I was tenacious I was able to purchase them off Amazon and then list them on CL for $100 more. Did this 11 times... ... not my proudest moment to be scalping Wii but it did help to pay some bills that month. Even in that case I had people try to talk me down, but only had to wait 15 minutes before someone else would offer me what I was asking. Supply and Demand...
694doorbird Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 WE've used CL a half dozen times. I had no problems getting my asking price.
dipolley Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 I use CL fairly often to get rid of anything I think is worth more then donating. My biggest gripe is people who send messages in all lowercase letters and no punctuation. If you can't take the time to send me a properly written letter with a hello line, punctuation, and your name at the end, I don't bother. I have accepted lower offers simply because the letter was well written and professional. I had a kid one time come over to my house to buy two, 12-inch, 1000 watt rms speakers in a band-pass box. I wanted $100 (Probably $700 worth of stuff). He asked why I was selling them and I told him I was never going to use them, I took them in trade for a job I did, and I am moving and don't want to take them with me. He actually tried to talk me down after all of this and offered me $25. I laughed. I pulled a line from "Lock Staock and Two Smoking Barrels" and said "Look kid, this is $700 worth of stuff for $100. Its a deal, its a steal (Looked up in contemplation) you know what F*** it, I think I'll keep 'em." I turned and walked back into the garage. He gave me $100 and then wanted me to put it in his car for him. He had 3 friends with him. I laughed again. From what I hear of stories of CL dealing, I am lucky the kids didn't jump me, beat the hell out of me, and rob me.
Z71_Denali Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 ...From what I hear of stories of CL dealing, I am lucky the kids didn't jump me, beat the hell out of me, and rob me. the few times i do get rid of something on there, i always have a friend with me and carry. getting my CHL was the best thing i've done since graduating college... and getting married

b_pappy Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 No Craigslist, but pre internet days we had the Recycler. I listed a Chevy Vega wagon for free and had people call and ask weird questions. I mean where can you from free, right? Then they would say, oh. it's red never mind. Oh, it has a cracked windshield. Somehow my wife got someone to pay for it though. Then I was selling a Harley and a guy wanted to trade a shotgun and some diamonds....odd. Bruce
MAYBEN Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 I almost bought an iPhone from a guy on CL a while back.. I'm pretty sure I evaded a car jacking when I went to pick it up..
Billyt Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 i sold a never used kestral das6 on C/L and 9 months later the bloke knocked on my door and said it had broken down the night before and he wanted his money back. Or could he have a replacement from the place i got it from i asked him how many times he had used it and he said evey other day he was a detailer. I gave him the number of the place and he left 2 days later he rang to say they where going to replace it and would i pay for delivery back to them. I near choked.
txredgt Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Just picked up some sweet oakley gear on craigslist
NeonSRT-4 Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 I do business on Craigslists all the time. I have specific rules I follow when dealing with people on there. When I am selling I NEVER arrange to meet at my house. I always do business in the local Wal-Mart or Target parking lot. I NEVER go alone, I always have my wife and German Shepherd with me (sorry but I don't carry a gun). I ALWAYS arrive 30 minutes early and I make sure to remove my license plate from my truck. I NEVER give out my personal home/cell phone number. I only deal via e-mail. Out of the 100's of transactions I've conducted I would say that less than 5% have been busts. Not a bad percentage if you ask me.
Z71_Denali Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 I just picked up a pair of new in box bowflex dumbbells from a guy on Craigslist for $200! I tried trading him a leopard dog bone but he wasn't interested lol!
txredgt Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 That's my score, not all of the glasses though lol.
