My first time.......

86lxjunker

Question

Hi guys - another first timer with lots of questions.

I am heading out to do my first machine polish ever....with my new PC. I was going to start with my truck, but have now decided to put my efforts into doing my wifes 08 Honda Pilot Black.

Is there anything I need to look out for or be careful with, when working on Honda Black ?

I have watched the videos multiple times including junksmans as well, so I think I am ready to go for it.

I am heading out to do a 2 bucket wash and then clay - after I am done claying I will come back here to see if I need to be careful with anything or to start out with SSR or SHR first ???

Thanks

Just follow what you've learned on the videos. Go SLOW. Perfect that 2x2 area first before proceeding on.

If the paint is at all swirled beyond very minor stuff, you should probably start with SHR. Try 2 passes with that. If you're getting the correction you want, don't bother with SSR. If you need a more aggressive polish, step up to SSR for 2 or 3 passes, then down to SHR, then down to FMP.

Mark off a 2 x 2 area with tape.

Start with the least aggressive polish/pad combo first - FMP and white pad

Work in the taped area until the polish flashes

Wipe and inspect area

Still swirls, do another section pass with FMP

Wipe inspect

Still swirls, move up to SHR and orange pad

Wipe inspect

Still swirls, do another section pass with SHR

Wipe inspect

Still swirls, move up to SSR and green pad

Wipe inspect

Still swirls, do another section pass with SHR

Wipe inspect, repeat

You will still have small swirls remaining

Move back down to SHR and orange pad

Wipe inspect

Move back down to FMP and white pad

Wipe inspect

When the 2x2 area looks like you want it to look you are ready to tackle the rest of the car.

I know it is hard to do it this way when you have new toys to play with, but taking your time is better than doing the whole car, but only doing a half azzed job after spending the whole day polishing. Ask me how I know! :D

Thanks guys !!!

Ok - so I started with FMP on 2x2 and didnt like the results.....stepped up to SHR and BINGO......swirls gone.....

So now I have started to do the whole car with SHR in sections and have discovered bigger/deeper sratches that need more detail. I guess I need to go back to the shopping cart and add some 4" pads.

Next question - when watching Adam do his demos - he just left each step on the car when moving to the next step....so my question is - as it is getting later and I want to quit for the night - is it OK to leave the haze of the SHR on the car for the night and just pick up with FMP in the morning ?? Or should I wipe the whole car down for the night ??

Since you are leaving it so long I would recommend wiping it down before stopping for the night.

For those bad spots, if you didn't already try it, several passes of SHR over them may help.

I personally try to finish polishing in one day. my last pass would be with MSS, that way I can leave it over night to cure. Now tomorrow your going to waste a day, unless you use the spray sealant.

to answer your question, i would wipe it down. Then in the morning wipe it down again just incase any dust sits on the car.

Thanks...I just wiped it down and she sure is purdy !!! - The wife is going to love the shine when I am done and I haven't even started on the FMP yet.......

I do have both the Spray Sealant and the MSS - but its ok to be down all day tomorrow - as I can start on my Truck or my daily driver while I wait for the MSS to cure.

If I get crazy - I will do the same first stages to my daily driver tomorrow and then MSS both at the same time and let them sit overnight and then on Sunday hit them both with Americana !!!

Ok...so now that I have finished my first machine polishing....I really loved all the products that I utilized.

1 - The polishing products did a great job on the Pilots black paint.

2 - The VRT is perfect for the SUV with the flat black plastic bumper guards and roof racks - This product is great.

3 - The glass cleaner is amazing !!!!

4 - The americana came off super easy.

The only problem that I experienced with this whole process is that now I am HOOKED.....I just placed an order for:

Gallon of Detail Spray

Gallon of Car Wash

Gallon of All purpose cleaner

Gallon of Waterless wash

Gallon of Glass cleaner collection with the Glass Sealant.

Brillant Glaze and New Pad combo

Microfiber Revitalizer

Thanks for the addiction Adam's !!!!

Do you know that there's a deal for those 4 gallon refills?

Adam's Essential Pack - 1 Gallon Refills

It'll save you a pretty penny if you use that deal right there :D
