Black 2011 Mustang Swirls

ElviraPony

Question

I am having trouble with swirl marks on my black 2011 Mustang. I first purchased the Adams system back in the fall to use with the PC (which I already had) and it worked pretty well. However, about two weeks and 2-3 car washes later, it was all full of swirls again. So I ordered some Adams drying towels, new wash mitts, and the bucket with the grit guard and re-polished the car. Washed the car a few times with my new towels (which I washed with no fabric softener and hung dry) and the swirls came back again. Been doing this since and its getting tiresome having to re-polish the car every month. Is it a problem with my clearcoat/paint being soft, am I expecting too much from a black car, or am I doing something wrong??

No you are not expecting too much, and I am not sure how soft or hard the Ford clear coat is.

Review your 2 bucket wash to see if you could possibly be doing something wrong.

Also it could be that your not getting all the swirls out, and waxing inevitably act as a filler on top of protecting your paint. When you wash and dry it your taking of a minute layer of wax and thus revealing the swirls.

Are you positive your polishing to perfection?

Edit just saw that your using one bucket. There's most of your problem right there.

Wife's 07 gets a swirl if a cow farts in Mexico. It's red (not as unforgiving as black)

Not happy with the Forgetful Owner Rarely Detailed. Wanting her to get a TBSS or something of the sort. I miss my Camaro - but she won't get one of those.

I'm guessing your clear coat is delicate as well as your technique needs some time to find it's yoda.

Looks like you've already got all the suggestions! 2 bucket wash is a must. Go over the car again with the SSR on a 2x2 area and see if you get the results you are looking for before moving on to the rest of the car. Keep us updated.

Yep, 2-bucket wash is what you need. And yes, it is black so you are going to see swirls much more easily than with any other color. No worries though. Once you get your process down, it will get easier.

like everyone said, get that 2-bucket wash perfected and your black will stay perfect :D thats coming from a black car owner, no metallic flecks to hide anything either!

You also know I'm not far if you need any help. We talked about the 2 bucket wash last night, use that grit guard as well to keep your wash pad cleaned during washing. You've seen my S2k and it has one of the softest clears I've ever seen( aside from Subbies).....it's still swirl free after tons of washes since my last detail in Dec.
