Master blaster sidekick expectations?

So sense I bought my new car I have been using a backpack leaf blower to dry it off. It would be dry in about 6 minutes and 98% of the car had no water.

I got my sidekick today and went right out and washed my car like normal. It must of took me 10-15 minutes to get the car 75% dry. I ended up pulling out the detail spray and the Waffle Weave drying towel to dry the rest off.

Was I expecting too much?

Yes...If you wanted something similar to your leaf blower you should have got the master blaster. The side kick is good to blow water out from cracks, but it just doesn't do the job for drying the whole car IMO

Sounds like you were expecting too much... the question gets asked regularly... and most people would tell you the sidekick is not ideal for the entire car. I just recently answered it in a few threads:

For drying if you want something that can dry the whole car, then go with the master blaster... if you just want something to take care of the cracks and crevices, or just small amounts of leftover water after sheet rinsing go with the sidekick.

You can certainly use it to dry a whole car, if you are freshly detailed, sheet rinse first, and take your time... it shaves a ton of time off of hand drying even if it doesn't get every drop off the car. Thats typically how I use it...

  • Sheet rinse
  • Sidekick to knock off bulk of water
  • Towel dry remainder

I don't even have a master blaster since I don't want to make room for it in the garage, but if you want something thats going to dry the entire car completely then the master blaster is the one you want.

Yeah in fact even the master blaster cant match the volume of air produced by the high end leaf blowers. For me it actually added some time to the drying process with the switch to the blaster but its sooooo much more convenient, quieter, lighter, paint friendly, etc than my leaf blower. Mine wasnt a backpack though and therefore was bulky, heavy and awkward to use around the car.

Ive had my sidekick about 2 weeks now, I like it alot there is only one problem I have had with it. If you look for it you might notice it in yours at home. While the sidekick is on put your hand by where the two halves of the shell of the machine meet (4 screws hold it all together). There was a serious amount of air flowing out of here on mine so its not sealed which equals not that good of performace. What I ended up doing is taking the two halves apart and wraping some electrical tape around where they meet making a seal. Now it works alot better and is more powerfull!

I use mine to push water out of the cracks, as well as dry my wheels and tires. No more dirty towels from drying tires.

What's been the issue with using the backpack blower?

We use a backpack blower to blow up our bongo water trampoline. Takes about 15 seconds. lol

Thats actually by design to properly cool the internals... you will likely shorten the life of your blaster by sealing that off.

uhho :willy: I didn't know that at all, I did leave a small outlet near the back that lets out just a little bit of air, hopefully thats enough. Thanks Dylan I think you know everything now
