I'm slightly new here, but I've been lurking for a while. I found Adam's through gmfullsize.com and always wanted to make the switch. About a month ago I bought the car wash starter kit and loved it so much that I had to start buying more right away. I made 2 big orders during the spring sale, and started the paint correction process yesterday. I'm going to have to do it over a few days, but I'm really excited to see the results.

The goods

I don't really have any good before pics of the whole truck. It's normally pretty clean. Just haven't had the products to do a paint correction on it.

I started with the engine bay. Used APC 50/50 with fender brush.

Before

Then let it dry, then finished it off with SVRT. Also used waterless wash on the paint under the hood.

After

Decided I wanted to debadge. Took a while but it was worth it.

Some letters were easy and came off just by pulling. Others took some work.

After

Then washed and clayed. It has never been clayed before and hasn't been waxed in about 2 years.

Then rewashed because I won't be able to start polishing till this weekend.

VRT is amazing. Left side with VRT right side without.

Damage investigation. Gonna be a fun correction.

I'm very frustrated right now. I just got done doing the hood. It didn't come out as well as I anticipated. It has more shine, but all the etched in water spots are still there. I'm guessing the paint is ruined. What do y'all think?

I did 2 passes with severe swirl and haze

2 swirl and haze

1 fine machine

machine super sealant

Im with them^^^^^ It sucks but the best thing you can do now besides repainting is just correct it no swirls and have a nice shine though the etched spots may still be there at least your truck will look great and be well protected from it happening in the future. At least its not down to bare metal and rusting or chipped. Another way you ocould look at maybe upgrade and get yourself a nice cowl hood or HD hood.

Welcome.

Nice truck!

Great write up so far!

That clear looks etched man. If you know how to wetsand, that will probably help. IF not, leave that to the pros.

Remember to clean your engine bay every 1,000 miles.

Thanks for the tips guys. After sleeping on it, I've pretty much excepted that the hood is just gonna have to be. I looked at it before my drive to work this morning and it doesn't look quite as bad as yesterday. Either the light was more forgiving or the sealant covered up a few of the blemishes. The rest of the truck should turn out better, at least I am hoping.

Anyone have any advice for caring for the painted rubber door trim?

Would brilliant glaze and a coat of americana have the ability to mask the etching?

The BG has some fillers in it, so it's worth a try.

The Americana does not contain fillers, it just has chemicals that melts faces! :jester:
