Outdoor detailing

Question

Hey guys,

I just received my PC kit yesterday afternoon, once I got home from a flight FedEx pulled up. I felt like a 6 year old opening his Christmas presents. Well I can't wait to start only issue I'm having is location to start working.my garage its under major construction so that will be out of commission for a few more Weeks. But I'm tempted. I know its best to polish and wax in a shaded area, but was wondering if it would harm my paint in any way detailing outside under no shade.

It's not ideal, but you'll be fine. Drink lots of water and take your time.

A lot of members buy those inexpensive easy-up type canopies for outdoor detailing, too. A 10x10 one probably wouldnt cost more than $100 and be fine for occasional use.

Have fun with your new products!!

The teams that do the shows/clinics many times end up being outside and in the full sun and they are able to do the polishing. You can polish in the sun, just realize that the polishes will dry out faster, many times the polish will dry out before the solids have broken down and you will need to use more detail spray than if you were in the shade.

If at all possible try to find some shade, it will make your learning experience a little easier as you learn how the polishes work, what the "flash" looks like and when you need to add more detail spray.

Congratulations on your new arrival! You can do your polishing outside if you wish. I do it all the time, however I will bring out the canopy should the temps begin to get warmer (75 or 80 plus degrees range).

I also like to watch how the polish or wax cures depending on the temps. This will judge how much of the car I should work on at one time before moving to the next part. With the recent temperatures here in CT over the past month it's been perfect for detailing outside.

Tomorrow should be a perfect day as well for you in Brooklyn. I'll be outside with my PC tomorrow! :2thumbs:

Appreciate it guys. I'm really looking forward to this. I've heard about the canopy, I'll probably take a trip to porticos to see what the have in stock.

Depending on your neighbors level of tolerance I have set up halogens and done stuff as the sun was setting. Just have to watch out for the bugs!

I'm pretty new to the pro level of detailing myself. All points made above are great advise. Yes, you will need a squirt of DS more often. Just don't over saturate the pad so you won't fling liquids everywhere. I too purchased a 10x10 from Wal-Mart for $100. I also purchased a wall that goes with the 10x10 canopy since the sun shifts position (yes, I know the Earth revolves around the sun :lolsmack:).

Enjoy your new toys. I love em!

Good move watching the DVD. I must have watched hundreds of hours of Adam's & Junkman videos before I made my first purchase. Looking before you leap is always a plus. Hope all works well for you Frantz. :xfingers:
