Removing window tint

scott5

Question

What do you guys use to get the film from the window tint off your windows? I had to fix the motor in my side window of my Trans Am and the tint is all messed up and ripped so I removed it and it left a film on there. I was thinking clay bar? Will this work?

i have removed my share of window tint for various reasons...It is such a tedious process, the actual tint is no problem removing, once you get it started with a razor blade just peel it off, the adhesive residue is whats miserable.

Go to autozone/pepboys and get some tint adhesive remover (5bucks) spray this on your window numerous times, then take a utility knife blade and with a blow dryer set on high heat warm up an area of the window and begin using the blade at a steep angle to remove the adhesive.

Be patient, it is NOT fun. you could also try getting 3M adhesive remover SPRAYING IT ON A MF RAG OUTSIDE OF YOUR CAR then rub the saturated side of the rag over the adhesive, this may be quicker then the tint remover. But please make sure you spray it ouside of your car away from any plastics, dont get it so saturated that the rag drips, if it touches plastic its ruined.

Yea I got the tint off that was the easy part, then once I got to the film, all i said was uh oh. Need some guidance..

Thanks, I think I have the 3m adhesive removal in the garage. I will try that out. Thanks again.

After I get it off, with the 3m, safe to use the window cleaner then?

I used a lot of soapy water (dish soap) and a razor blade. Saturate with the soapy water a small area at a time and go to work with the blade.

I had to remove the front window tint on a car I gave to my niece that lives in Utah. I ended up using glass cleaner and a single edge razor blade. Worked to perfection.
