bobbagels
That is the question. I am going to embark on my first detail job using Adams products this weekend. (as long as I aint too sick) I have always used 3m Hand glaze on the car for the last few years.(good product, but it aint the Adams system) I am thinking before claying I should strip wash the car using dawn first in order to get rid of the years of build up? I am unsure (and kinda nervous, first time using the PC)
THE Mook
I would honestly just mix in some APC into your wash bucket. Another step to go into the kitchen to grab the dishsoap, when it's easier to just reach for the APC bottle, dump a little in, mix it into the CarShampoo bucket, and go to town homie! Skywalker
It depends on the waxes you use. The one I use is detergent proof, but an APC that dwells will kill it. Also, Dawn is different than other detergents, Dawn works the best. I mix dawn with a good car soap/shampoo as dawn does not have the lubricity/surfactants needed to effectively prevent marring. Also adding a few ounces of APC works very well. [i always try to be extra careful to wash with a cool surface and no direct sunlight when I use APC's and Dawn]. 07RS4
I don't do the strip wash any more. I use a spray bottle with 50/50 water and rubbing alcohol. Seems to work really well for me. Spray it on, wipe it off. Done. No 2 washes and bull like that. The reason I still believe the strip wash has value, is on an excessively dirty car. The added APC/PH increase, really bumps up the very mild car shampoo and attacks the dirt and grime. As far as the LSP, I'm not fully convinced as of late, that in itself, it removes the it completely.

07RS4
So, just to be clear we are mixing 2-3 oz of APC with adams car wash soap NOT dawn. Yes, but as of late I firmly believe, even this combo will not fully remove the Quick Sealant. My RS beaded just as well after my strip wash. However, the triple play will definately remove everything. Strip Wash Clay IPA

Team Adam's
How about the ratio of the APC and Adams Shampoo mix? Just a few oz is all it will take... essentially what you want to do is take the soap mixture from pH neutral (7) to slightly acidic to give it the ability to strip old waxes... doesn't take much. BTW, dumb question here but we ARE talking about dawn dishwashing liquid right? (they do make other stuff) Yes... Dawn... original blue. None of the stuff with added hand moisturizers, potpourri scents, or funky grease fighting additives. Just regular old, run of the mill, dawn dish soap. egott_91
You will want to do a strip wash BEFORE claying. As far as the PC. I was nervous when I used it for the first time, and have only used it once. Once you start it's just like waxing, only with a machine that is vibrating. BlueGenCoupe
A strip wash is the first step in polishing. You could use dawn, APC/adams shampoo mix or IPA wipe down. Either one will work! Good luck. Take some before and after shots for us
