4th gen pad question

Roshi

Question

ad37000a-4eb7-ac14.jpgad37000a-4ecf-a82d.jpg

Why does the orange pad get caked up with polish so much more than the green and white pads? i used the pad cleaning tool regularly. Also, with these pads the dust is insane. I think I am going to have to wash the car before I apply the sealant and Americana.

Since I have to finish the car tomorrow can I just store the pads in zip loc bags?

Thanks.

Not bashing here, just stating my preferences.

The orange pad is my least favorite to work with of the Adam's pad line-up. It's so rigid, it softens up with polish and detail spray, but I never like working it as much as the green and white. I've gone from the green to white before with no issues at all. The SSHR is not that abrasive compared to other brands...and IMHO, the FMP finishes the SSHR off fine. Although it's not recommended by the masses, but it has worked for me. Just sayin....settle down boys.

You might be using too much polish. And remember, the foam cell structure is different with the orange pads so more polish stays ON the pad (vs. IN the pad).

Also ,try reviving the polish with DS instead of putting more polish on the pad for each panel.

please explain your process of polishing...

how much product do you initially put in the pad?

do you spritz with DS?

how much product do you add to the pad from panel to panel?

are you regularly spritzing the pad with DS?

this is how i do it:

1. initially make a small X on the pad

2. one spray of DS

3. work a 2'x2' area

4. add 2 or 3 pea size drops of polish

5. small spray of DS

6. work a 2'x2' area

7. repeat steps 2 through 6 until entire vehicle is done.

notice i said 2, not 3! you don't have to add product everytime you work a panel, more like every other time.

I am glad that this thread got started. I too just used the gen 4 pads on the flex for the first time this past weekend and i wasnt too impressed. I felt like it took forever to get the orange pad to flash. It just kept spreading the polish around. Before everyone assumes its because i use to much i will tell you i have been doing this regularly for a year now and i use minimal polish and use detail spray only when needed to keep the compound from building up. I felt the new pad spreads the compound much nicer than the "gen 3" pads, if thats what we call them, but it didnt seem to want to dry up. I found myself spreading with the gen 4 and then switching to the old pad to polish it out.

I too also noticed alot of dusting. It got quite frustrating to be honest with you. Definately a noticeable difference from the old pads. Part of me wonders if Adam's knew this and thats why they released the pad cleaning brush with these new pads.

Anyone else have similiar experiences?

Appears i have been using to much polish as i was making an X on every pass. I stored the pads in a zip loc because i need to finish tomorrow. I will say i am loving the Flex - results are much better and faster than with the PC. Thanks all!

To much polish sounds right. Add polish in staggered sections of the pad as you go. Like every inch, eventually the full pad would have been covered. Seems to keep polish from building up. The dust has to be coming from not enough detail spray, use it before and during the pass if needed.

Report back, we all want to hear about the pads.
