6 Hours Later My Paint Is Looking Just A Little Better

DP 08 GXP

Recommended Posts

have a sinus infection on top of that so it made it really enjoyable....process went as follows

-cleaned the outside and barrel of the rim with Green Wheel Cleaner

-cleaned the tire and wheel well with All Purpose Cleaner

-strip wash with Adam's All Purpose Cleaner and Car shampoo mix in my foam gun followed by a 2 bucket wash

-sprayed the engine down with All Purpose Cleaner and agitated with a brush and sprayed down

-clayed with Adam's clay bar...if i had to guess its the first time this car has seen one

-started the 3 step polish process which started with Severe Swirl Remover, then Swirl and Haze Remover, and finished with Fine Machine Polish

-wipe down with Waterless Wash

-applied 3 coats of Brilliant glaze

-applied 2 coats of Americana paste wax

-dressed the trim and tires with SVRT

-sprayed wheel wells with Invisible Undercarriage Spray

car came out looking brand new and the paint is 95% fixed minus the scratches from previous owners that are through the paint...on with the pics

Nice job Derek..the Flex master. You made quite a transformation there.

Now get a foam cannon, you'll never want to use that suds gun again :)

thanks man....funny you mention that...my karcher pressure washer came today and the foam cannon should be here at the end of the week

3 coats of glaze seems like a bit much, but to each their own and it turned out great.

I agree, silver is a biotch to see swirls on. The lighting has to be absolutely right and even then it's touch to see them all. I guess that's how they stay looking so good. Lol. It's pretty much impossible to see the swirls in direct sunlight on silver because when you look at where the sun is hitting the paint, it blinds you...

Also forgot to add that I used the pad brush and it worked as advertised...really saved me from having to get a 2nd set of pads out.

Great job, GO BUCKS!

What did you use on the exhaust tips? They look amazing

always got to represent the Buckeyes lol....I cleaned them up with APC then hit them with Metal Polish #1 with 0000 steel wool and finished it with Metal Polish #2

Nice job, she looks great! My 04 Comp. didn't have the Comp badges, on the doors, just on the GTP trunk badge.:burnout:

Thanks!

lookin' good! people say black is tough, but the lighter colors i think are harder to correct!

My neighbors probably thought I was losing my mind last night...I was walking around the car, moving my lights, getting down at different angles all trying to get good shots of the swirls because I knew they were there...now I dont have that problem lol

Looks like you put a lot of effort in and the results came out great!!!

Thanks!

Your GP is representing as usual. My client canceled their Thursday appointment due to this much needed rain. I just may polish mine up tomorrow. I only have a PC so I may not get as close to perfection as you did with the FLEX.

I find it tough to correct the paint on my '04 GTP. Overall, was uses tough?

The Pontiac's I have had havent been bad at all between my GXP and the Comp G but I have also been using the Flex which makes it easier

You can never have too much glaze lol.....As you can see above I tried to get a shot with the sun and needless to say I didnt succeed and almost lost my vision lol

Car looks great.

What Karcher did you get? I have a K2.26 which is 1500psi and 1.3GPM. I have a foam cannon, but have not ever used it. The pressure washer only comes with a 15 foot hose, so I am looking to get a 25 foot extension hose, and start using this thing this year.

I got the K3.48 which is 1800 psi and 1.5GPM....the one I have comes with a 25 foot hose...Once my foam cannon comes in that is the only way I will wash since it will help keep swirls to a minimum

Outstanding work. I do love how silver looks when fully polished. The angles and body lines all give off slightly different shades and it just looks SWEET :2thumbs:

thanks! i wasnt a bad fan of the color when i got it but it is growing on me

Wow. That is an eye popping transformation. Especially for a silver car (believe me, i know). Unreal work. Please don't take this comment the wrong way... I have never been a fan of the Grand Prix. It just never struck my fancy... until today. AWESOME job.

thanks and thanks lol....i was looking for a DD that was somewhat fast and reliable and this fit the bill for the most part....i had a Grand Prix GXP and i really liked the body style on that compared to the other model of 04+ Grand Prix...i will be adding a new front lip to it hopefully soon so that will add a better look to the front end that is lacking

You're welcome! Silver is by far the easiest color vehicle to maintain, IMO. I have 3 cars.... Each of them a different shade of silver/gray. 2005 G35 in a medium silver, 2008 Pathfinder in Graphite, and the 2012 Raptor in light silver.

The hard thing with silver is that it can just look sooooo booooooring. Not as boring as beige (apologies to beige car owners- beige can look really classy, OK?), but still pretty darn boring. I think that's where the design and lines of the vehicle come through. If a carmaker can make a silver vehicle look sexy and exciting, they have done something right. Silver really accentuates all of the lines of a vehicle. You can't hide poor design with silver flake. Your GTP was the first Grand Prix that made me pause and look at its design. Outside of that Pontiac split grill thing, I think they really nailed the design of this car.

I can't believe I just wrote that.
