Flashing

Nickefer

Question

I just did my first detail with Adam's products and the PC today and I have to say I'm hooked. Nothing but Adams from here on out! I do have one question though...while I was working with the SHR (orange) I never really got the "flashing" look to know when I've worked it in. It was blatantly obvious with the FMP and had no issues. So basically with the SHR am I using to much or not enough to get that flashing look to know when I'm done. I used 3-5 pea size drops depending on the size of the panel on my G35 coupe.

If don't get that semi clear greasy vaseline look than you need to keep working the polish or you are just plainly using too much polish. I use the Flex now and let me tell you its much easier to find than the PC. Good Luck guys!

At first I thought I had too much SHR in the pad but then sometimes after I'd spread it and made 1-2 passes it was almost gone off the paint and I know it shouldn't be worked in with only 2 passes. Guess I just have to find that right amount based on the size of the panel, like I said this was my first time using a machine polisher but overall I'm super impressed with the results

were you adding 3-5 drops each time you moved to a new panel?

you don't have to add it everytime. use 2-3 pea sized drops, then on every other section just spritz the pad with DS before making a pass

if you were having trouble getting SHR to flash, you may have been using too much and its caked in the pad. the new pad brush is great for getting excess polish out of the pads as your working

I did try just a spray of DS for the smaller areas and still felt like I didn't have enough on my pad, but like I said i'll just have to work with it and figure it out. Thanks for all the help.

I do have that brush and it made it super easy to clean the pads after I was finished.

it usually takes me 3 or 4 times of going up/down then side/side SLOWLY before it flashes. its a lot shorter with FMP. i move the polisher about an inch per second

Hot and humid central Alabama. It was

overcast and in the 70s the day I was detailing though.

I know exactly what you mean. When I detailed a Camaro last week I had the same problem. It seem to take forever for the SHR to flash. And I'm using a Flex.

If you have any questions just look me up in the dealers section and give me a call. I know what method works in California doesn't always work here.

Hi Nick -

On black paint, you should be able to see the flash of the SHR. When you first spread it (SHR) around on the paint at PC setting 3, then increase it to 5 and start working, it will look slightly milky. When it flashes, that milky look will go away to be replaced by a clear but greasy vaseline kind of look. You really have to keep looking at different angles to make sure what you are seeing, not just reflections off the flashed SHR falsely making it look whitish. It usually takes a few minutes of going up and down, left and right, over the test area with the PC to have it flash.

If you are not sure if the SHR has flashed, keep working it, as long as you see most of it on the finish. And please, don't put on too much polish, as it really slows down the correction speed and time to flash. It just clogs up the pad and works more slowly, as the pad itself does some of the work, and the SHR does some of the work - they operate as a team, and when not too much or too little polish, work correctly together. 3 pea sized drops is plenty, no kidding. It seems backwards, but that is how it works.

I started out my first time using waaay too much polish, and didn't get good results at all, and saw chunks of polish coming off the pad. (indication that I was using too much polish).

Doing the above 'every other 2x2' area with just DS helps keep the pad clear once you get going after a couple of 2x2' polishing areas. I sometimes do 2 passes per 2x2' area and I alternate 'polish and DS' pass with 'just DS' pass. You don't want to polish until there is no polish visible on the surface, but you can work it pretty far until the polish looks like a 'very oily fingerprint' kind of look. When you wipe the finish of the SHR, the light reflections should look pretty clear, and the big swirls should be gone. The FMP pass will make those light reflections more crisp along the edges.

If one of us could stand next to you and show you the flash, it would be easy. Once you see it, you will easily recognize it after that. :)

I hope this helps.

p.s. hold your polishing area to 2x2' max, that also helps things polish best, no kidding. Too large an area gets worse results, as then you are dealing with the polish drying out before it's worked, etc. etc.

@Doug and InDepth

I appreciate all the help and tips! This is a perfect example of why I chose Adam's. Before I purchased anything I did tons of reading all over the internet trying to find what's best for me and mostly did a lot of reading on ******** and then found this forum and this by far has been the most informative and helpful community I came across even if it is mainly particular to one line of product. But will all the support from Adam's themselves as company as well as their customers behind them, it made my decision very easy and I have to admit I'm hooked.

Thanks again.
