SVRT and Quick Sealant

Marre

Question

After applying SVRT on the exterior trim, would it be useful to apply Quick Sealant over it after the SVRT has completely dried? Would it extend the life of the SVRT, are the chemicals compatable, am I wasting time and money, is this a stupid question?

Actually, sounds like a good idea. Try doing 1/2 with sealant and 1/2 w/o and let us know results.

I'm going to go ahead and give it a try. The vinyl section below the rear bumper is the best place for 50/50 since the license plate breaks it down the middle. The worst that can happen is the Quick Sealant side might be too shiny. I'll put up photos to show if there is an obvious difference in longevity between the side with and the side without.

Yes, but nothing really obviously different at this point.

The SVRT only was applied to the left side. The right side had SVRT applied, and the Quick Sealant applied one day later. This was done on April 20th and 21st. The first photo shows what it looked like at that time.

To me, it appeared that the side with the Quick Sealant, the right side,is a bit darker. A co worker who just looked at the photo said the left side looks blacker.:lolsmack:

The second photo was taken today. Both sides are still dark. I don't think much product has faded at this point. Still, the right side, with the addition of Quick Sealant, looks a bit darker to me. However, I am willing to admit this is my imagination.

I will update as the product(s) fades more.

I was under the impression that quick sealant, like machine super wax formed a chemical bond with the surface it is applied to. If that is the case, it's probably not really doing anything when applyed to an already SVRT'd surface.

Quick sealant ONLY LASTS AS LONG as the product beneath it!!!!!! That's why it has to be applied to a pure, bare, free of polishes/contaminants surface. If you apply quick sealant OVER SVRT, it's only gonna last as long as the SVRT. You are truly wasting time and money if you do this........

However.

If you apply the quick sealant as the FIRST layer and allow it to cure (like normal). And then follow it with SVRT, you'd probably get better results. Just like layering it with Americana on paint. Follow???

Please remember for future reference, a sealant has to be applied to a clean, bare surface in order to be effective. Anything applied under it, is merely rendering it LESS effective. :)

You both have a valid point. But since I am not using it under wax, I was not sure the chemical reaction would be the same. Different chemicals, different reaction, unlikely, but maybe. I know you're probably right, but experimenting is fun, and I'm working on a small area. It's not been long enough to really tell what is going on, but so far the area topped with quick sealant looks no worse than the side without, so at least it looks like it won't fail quicker.

Topping quick sealant with SVRT as an experiment? I like it.:D
