Jerseykid
Hello adams, I decided to sign up and check out the forums after hearing some great reviews from amazon, autopia and auto geek. I am dj, i am 24 and i have a 2011 wrx which I have sadly neglected. Rough paint, dirty, swirl marks and bugs from alot of highway driving. I've always been a big fan of detailing but have always been too timid to do it myself. My car is definitely in need of some caring and im sick of always putting it aside. Time to end this trend. I had my eye on the adams essentials kit, it looks like everything I need to get started. I will admit, I am a bit weary of using an orbital, I feel like ill damage the paint . So I will start with the hand clean/wax/polish and see what it does. I also really like how the essentials pack comes with a dvd, I like seeing before I try, gives a little bit of confidence. Hoping to see and hear some good detail stories that will get me even more motivated, and thanks for letting me join

Marylander
Welcome, DJ. Don't even worry about causing damage with an orbital -- short of swinging it by the cord and violentey banging the thing on your hood, it's nearly impossible. All of Adam's products and processes are designed to be safe and effective for the home detailing enthusiast. You'll be fine, and you'll get great results. And using a PC (orbital) will get you FAR better results than anything you'd ever get doing it by hand. Got questions? Ask away... there are lots of helpful people here. The how-to videos will help put you at ease as well.

Sorry no before shots and the only products I used were Adam's products. Jerseykid
Adam's Premium Porter Cable 7424 XP Polisher Kit I know its a little pricey, but this kit looks awesome. Looks like everything i would need to start. Anyone agree or this overboard for a first time?
BlueGenCoupe
:welcomebanner:Dj Don't be affraid of using a PC. IF your car is in rough shape, polishing by hand will only correct your paint to a certain point. If you Polishin with a machine, You will get flawless paint. Spend the money right the first time

IF your car is in rough shape, polishing by hand will only correct your paint to a certain point. If you Polishin with a machine, You will get flawless paint. Spend the money right the first time I think its in rough shape, I may be biased. But its far from smooth. However I do agree with spending money right the first time. Lord knows I've wasted alot of money on way less useful things. However I feel if I can use that detail kit more then once, then it easily pays for itself, right? Plus can't compete with satisfaction, there is no price on that

I would still suggest adding a gallon of DS and maybe a gallon of APC.

Not sure i want to tack on the extra 100 bucks or so right away. Yo another NJ person on here I told you guys muuaahh muuahh muuaah the dirty jersey is taking over. Jerseykid
Man with all the jersey guys around , maybe we could chat at a meet or something. Maybe someone could give me a paint evaluation. Is it sad im so anxious already? I want to shine my car up since I know it was never properly cleaned even when I got it from the dealer. Does anyone also have any tips for bug removal during just a wash? I was using my normal mitts and couldn't even get the bugs off the bumper all the way. I was using my normal mitts and couldn't even get the bugs off the bumper all the way. Several options: Clean them with APC, but DO NOT let it dry on the paint! And you will have to reapply your protection Foam them up with some Car Wash and use the Trim & Lug Nut Brush. Rinse the brush often. Soak some thin microfiber towels in the Car Wash bucket and place them over the bugs for about 10 minutes. This should soften them up enough to remove easily. Z71_Denali
like others said, don't be afraid of the PC! if you really want to bring your car back to showroom new, you need a machine polisher, bc hand polishing will not get the job done on today's finishes. post some pics when you get a chance! Jerseykid
^ thank you very much, I didn't really think of soaking them, I was cleaning then wiping and repeating. One more question before you guys kill me, I noticed on here people are saying buy the flex over the pc because it gets out deeper scratches/swirl marks ... I don't want to buy the pc and find out it isn't enough for my car. Is the flex really worth the extra 200+ ? When I get home tonight ill try and get a picture of the swirl marks on the trunk that I think are pretty bad.

When I get home tonight ill try and get a picture of the swirl marks on the trunk that I think are pretty bad. the FLEX will correct the paint in about 1/3 the time of the PC, because it has forced rotation. that forced rotation also creates the possibility to burn through the clear coat if you don't keep the pad moving. the 2 machines will get the same job done, but the FLEX is just faster. if your timid about getting into machine polishing, start with the PC. how many cars do you plan on detailing? 1? 2? the PC is all you need to get the paint looking new and maintaining it in the future! plan on doing a lot of friends cars, have really thrashed paint, or plan to start a side business? get the FLEX! Jerseykid
Honestly, i plan on just doing my own. Time isnt really a concern to me, however burning the paint/damaging is a very big one. Certainly don't want to dabble with that. Slow and steady wins the race right? . Seems like the kit i mentioned before is the way to go. I spent a an hour or so last night watching all the videos on the adams site, they are really awesome and informative. I felt like i was ready to run outside and do my own already.
