JBlack151
This past December 2011 a local family experienced a tragic day. On Christmas morning in the community of Shippan Point in Stamford, Connecticut there was a horrible house fire that claimed the lives of 3 young girls and their grandparents. Only the mother and her friend survived. News stories all over the country covered the story and changed our Christmas morning to a day of sadness. This hit very close to home for our family. My sister and my mother both have their homes within a block of where the incident occurred. My wife and I used to live a few blocks further down before we purchased our new home. Our family and friends in the neighborhood were immediately awakened from the sounds of the fire engines heading down their street hours before sunrise on that Christmas morning. Thankfully my brother-in-law was not at the fire house that evening because of a shift change made prior, otherwise he would have been one of the first responders. He heard some of the stories from the other guys from his station, all of which were not easy to listen to. Along with my family and friends living so close the news seemed to get worse as our Christmas day went on. My wife discovered 2 of the young girls were students of hers at the local pottery studio where she works. She was extremely close with these girls and had recently finished glazing some of their pottery they finished a few weeks prior. My wife was devastated. After a while the story finally escaped the news, and people began moving on with their lives. We were notified the father of the young girls was going to be on Good Morning America to share his story. Although it is still sad to be reminded of this tragic morning, there is some uplifting news. The father has created a foundation to raise money for elementary schools and their art programs in honor of his 2 daughters who excelled in those art programs. Below are links from the interview on Good Morning America along with both the fundraising website and facebook page. They have raised over $40,000 very quickly and seems to be increasing at an amazing rate. Our family is in full support of this cause to help remember such amazing talented young girls. Any support you guys can provide would be absolutely amazing. If not, then please "LIKE" their Facebook page for support. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read.
