Theis Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Supposed to replace clay just wondering if anyone has heard of it or anyone using it Nano skin (link removed)
Chewy Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 The pics of Ryan's car looked like he used 3000 grit on it. It was horrible!!! Sent from the past using special algorithms and data nodes!
DaveVY Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Now junkman notes that clay will also create marring and or swirls that will be corrected. Are you saying that they are worse? It has been awhile since I saw Junkman's videos but I believe that he advocated using more pressure than what Adam's shows in their videos. It almost appeared that he was using the clay to scrub, which when there were contaminants in the clay that hadn't been folded in yet, they would tend to create more marring. I understood from Junkman's video that he wouldn't clay without following up with polishing, and assuming this, then using more pressure in claying is not a problem. (I stand to be corrected if I didn't remember this correctly) There are times when I will clay without polishing (especially on lighter colored DD cars), so I generally clay using very light pressure and constantly check for contaminants in the clay and fold it in. Some light marring will be there with clay, but nothing like the pic that was shown.
Team Adam's Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Now junkman notes that clay will also create marring and or swirls that will be corrected. Are you saying that they are worse? as I said in my first post: I have this along with a number of other 'clay alternatives' and none of them have pleased me yet. The amount of marring and damage introduced means more polishing later. While clay can intro SOME marring, these clay alternatives seem to introduce MORE and in some cases an extreme amount. Also for the record you shouldn't/won't see swirls from claying... some very light micromarring is common, and even then wouldn't be anywhere near whats depicted in Ryans picture.

Team Adam's Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Here... found the one he sent me... I'll shoot him this link so he he can post any others he has. The 'pattern' you see from the scrub is similar to what I saw. Required FMP in most areas, with some areas of SHR/FMP to correct. I haven't followed too closely since being a little disappointed in the result, but some people say the product has been changed since I tested. the second picture you can clearly see the 'spotted' dulling/marring the towel did to the finish. The sad thing is these are iPhone4 pics (5MP) - it looks worse in person
bigaudiofanatic Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Ya I would like to see because me and another member have been looking into it and read a pro had been using it for a while.
Team Adam's Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 I'm sure Ryan will post his when he gets online. I didn't bother taking pics when I tested the most recent batch of products... they marred... I tossed them in the trash and moved on.
bigaudiofanatic Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 What I think gets missed on this forum a lot is that though we don't allow for the discussion of these products we are testing them. I have this along with a number of other 'clay alternatives' and none of them have pleased me yet. The amount of marring and damage introduced means more polishing later. While clay can intro SOME marring, these clay alternatives seem to introduce MORE and in some cases an extreme amount. If/when we find a reasonable clay alternative that works without causing excessive damage we'll be sure to roll it out with our stuff, but to date - no such luck. Ryan also has one (and very soft paint) so his testing also showed me a lot... and it wasn't good! Pics?
Theis Posted April 30, 2012 Author Posted April 30, 2012 Well I would say that answers my question then...thanks guys

Bigredmariner Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 I have a high end detailer in the Austin area that uses them religiously. He uses a mix of Nano products, Adam's products and a few others.
the1inblue Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 They have the nano 6" disc now for a DA polisher. They say u can use water to wash the containments away..im not so sure about this
Jasssc Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 ^^^ What he said, but I have seen a few professional guys using it though so it must work somehow. For me, Ill stick with my clay. No need to change something that isnt broke. unless Adam or Dylan says to switch and it has an adams label, I won't be using it
mc2hill Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 From what I have read about these 'clay substitutes' you will HAVE to polish after using them, as they do leaving marring.

ChargerMatt Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 This was brought up not too long ago, there was a generally agreement about "Where do the contaminants go when you can't fold it?" It's like using a waterless wash without flipping the towel.
