Cyclist hit by car

Wow...glad they caught the driver. Drifting that far into the bike lane, almost guaranteed texting.

Cyclists, be careful out there. I know we're all supposed to SHARE the road, but remember, you're on a bike, and motorists are in cars. We got people here riding 3 wide, out of the bike lane, into the setting sun. They can be almost invisible.

We got those that like to ride 3 wide also,, but the Sumter County Sheriff's Office and FHP are ticketing that deal now. I agree 100%

There are alot of cyclist here, and we always try to keep one eye on everyone... :help:

We have a lot of cyclists in Huntington Beach, and that two and three wide nonsense goes on. We are lucky enough to bike lanes all over the place, a bike friendly town. Don't know if the local police are ticketing for that, but sure wish they would. I never ride more than one wide, just not safe. And always always wear your helmet.

My gripe with cyclists where I live is they all squeel about "share the road", but then they ride 2 and 3 wide, run stop signs, red lights, and at times are traveling well above posted speed limits. Especially in the residential areas. And yes some motor vehicles drive faster than they should as well. But the issue with bicycles is they are much harder to see. I have heard that some police departments here locally are cracking down on this and issuing citations.

I might also add that I personally know what it is like to be run over. Literally. Not just bumped off my bike. Happened to me when I was a kid.

I'll add that they do not pay any taxes for using their bikes on the roads either. People who ride on roads without any shoulders have a death wish. I think its great that people are getting out and exercising but you have to have some common sense, your life is more important than a bike ride. Go biking on a trail! Its prettier!

I like the ending comment by the lady "So there." LOL. I picture her sticking her tounge out afterwards.

I am glad these guys are both OK. They appear to have been doing everything right. Otherwise you would have me going on about bicyclists like Chris and Austin.

I have yelled "Share the road" to people on bikes and have seen bicyclists blatently run red lights in front of cops with no ticket given. Personaly I think if you are over 18, on a bike, and on a public road you should have to have to take a test, get a driver's licence endorsement, and register the bike with a plate and tags (same as a motorcycle). With more people riding bikes, this would help increase the revenue needed to fix roads that the bikes use too and ensure that the riders are using the roads safely when the 4,000-pound missles are being hurled at them. Right now the taxes I pay for my car are paying for bike lanes. I am glad the bike lanes are there, especially for these guys, because otherwise the odds of getting hit are much higher.

There is always going to be someone that thinks this is right or that is wrong. I see just as many cars and motorcycles and around where I live Golf Carts doing just the same thing that everyone yells about.

I agree cyclist should pay attention to the laws as anyone else should. BUt on the tax issue come on. At the most they are saving the roads. Bikes do not tear up the road or damage the surface as your car should. If that be the case, then you need to charge a tax at the entry of all states for all vehicles that are not registered in that state to help with the road tax since they are driving thru that state.

You can be as picky as you want... :help:

We have the 3 foot law. You have to give a cyclist 3 feet of cleareance when passing him. It is for safety. Just had some teens in a car swerve their car at a cyclist and hit him. Luckily a unmarked patrol car was behind him with the camera rolling. Bottom line teen driving got charge with assault with a deadly weapon. The cyclist had to be airlifted out. One teen in the car admitted the driver did it on purpose to scare the cyclist for fun..... :(
