Beginner question: Meguiars DA Polisher & Porter-Cable 7424XP

Hi, this is my first post, just starting out learning to detail my car. Thought i'd bring up a dilemma I have.

I just bought the Meguiars Dual-Action Polisher because I wanted to start detailing my car. I bought it because I recently had my car detailed and the detailer recommended it over the PC 7424XP. He said that the Meg's was easy to use and that the PC was more aggressive.

I have a 2012 Audi A6.

After talking with a few other people, I am contemplating returning the Megs and getting the PC.

Is the Meg's ok & will it work with the Adam's Pads/Polishes?

Is the PC that much better & how is its build quality?

What do all of you think?

The detailer misinformed you (probably b/c he himself didn't know either) but the the PC and the Megs machine are virtually the same spec wise. Neither is more aggressive than the other. If you were to return the Megs tool and buy thru us the big benefit is the lifetime warranty... we back all tools we sell for life.

As far as your questions:

Your current polisher will work with our backing plates and pads.

The PC (as mentioned) is identical spec wise and is easily the most widely used and tested tool in the detailing business. There are many other polishers on the market trying to move in on the PC's territory, but as of yet I haven't seen one that does the job any better.

If you really wanted to get into another class of machine you may consider the Flex 3401... it is more powerful than both the PC and Megs machine.

Dylan, Thank you for your quick response. I am going to switch to the PC. Just watched Junkman's video on it, and since I am just learning, I think the PC is a good tool to learn on.

Also followup question: When I purchased my car, I got the XZilon protection on it (FAQs). As far as using Wax, the XZilon page says "any non abrasive carnauba wax" can be used.

Which Adam's Wax product would work here?

Use either wax over that dealer installed sealant would be fine: Buttery or Americana. You're not to use an abrasive/cleaner type wax because it'll remove the current protection on the vehicle. Just as polishing would.

Within about eight months I'd be willing to bet most, if not all, of the XZilon would be gone.

Thanks BZRN,

For the 'Buttery or Americana', Can they be applied with the PC? If so, which Adam's Polishing pad would I use?

Adam's Polishes - Machine Polishing Pads & Polish

Both go on so easy that a machine is not required. You could take Americana out of the tub and put it on the Adam's Machine Super Sealant & Wax Pad.

From reading the FAQ on the XZilon, they don't recommend using a machine to polish. I would believe that the polish will remove their coating.

You better read the fine print for your "coating" you bought. A lot of times your warranty of said "sealant" is voided the second someone besides them touches your car.

the only advantage i see in the Meg's polisher is the overhead handle... although i've heard its prone to breaking, so maybe its not an advantage at all :D

PC FTW :pc:

I saw the PC and Flex at Grabicks Clinic last weekend and watched Lynn & AJ use them. Trigger on flex, on - off switch PC. It came down to personal taste. I bought a PC and waiting to use mine this weekend.
