What machine do you like? We have been to many of stores sampling machines and we have it narrowed down to either a Jura Ena9 or Miele CM5100 we like the features of them both and both brew an incredible cup of Java. was just wondering if we have any Connoisseur's on here that have an opinion. Ive read more reviews on the both of them then i care to talk about and it seems like we cant go wrong with either. the Miele is $500 more then the Jura, but we like that we can take the Jura into sur la table to get replaced if we ever need to. The Miele requires an authorized guy to come out and fix but does have a few more features then the Jura

TIA!

Here has been my experience with coffee makers. The expensive ones didn't last and the el cheapos last forever. Never looked at what your looking at however.

This topic reminds of a delivery I once made. Guy come running out of his house all excited for this box I had on my handcart. Thing was huge and weighed a ton. It was his new coffee maker and was COD. Don't remember the exact price but I do remember it being over 3K.....:willy:

This is some good stuff. The first time I ordered some of this the wife called me up mid day to say the coffee had arrived and that she had already consumed 2 pots. She never does that. Guy that I mentioned above told me about it.

I love a good cup of coffee. Here's what I've learned about the pursuit of the perfect cup. Obviously, the beans are more important than anything. Jamaican Blue Mountain and Hawaiian Kona are the top of the line. Super smooth, not bitter and just awesome. Be prepared for prices north of $30 a lb. However, Barnie's has a Peaberry that is amazing. IIRC, its TANZANIAN Peaberry.

The other important thing is the heat of the water making your coffee. The hotter the better. You can take the same beans and brew them in 2 different machines and get two different flavors simply because of the heat of the water.

Both machines you picked out look pretty sweet, so good luck!

Im going to have to check those out, Thanks!. Im not a bitter type of guy, I like something more lighter and smooth but love me a shot of expresso every once and a while. Starbucks (or harbucks) is a disgrace to coffee and that would be my level of disgusting :lolsmack:

That is the one thing with the jura, it gets probably 7-11 degrees hotter then the Miele, and im thinking this is the reason why were leaning more towards the Jura then the Miele, not to mention Sur La Table has an awesome return policy for the life of the machine, i also think it brews a smoother cup. However the Miele does make a better cappuccino. But were mainly looking for an excellent cup of coffee. My dad and I have gotten into a coffee hobby and we keep pursuing this more and more. Its just a super hard choice between the two machines. :help:

Heres a quick video on the Jura.

Thanks! we'll have to check this out too. My dad and I have gone through a small fortune lately in trying different coffee's. We finally decided that if we are going to spend this much on beans we need to get a real coffee maker that grinds on demand, its gettting old pulling out the grinder too. haha!

Here is what we like the best so far, its not a bad price either and its what we've been taking to the different stores trying to pick out our coffee maker

eh....brain just re-engaged....Tanzanian Peaberry...LOVE that coffee.

Oh..and keep in mind, Kona and Blue Mountain BLENDS are not the same as straight grinds.

Yea, thats the stuff. $12.95 is a fair price.

If you have a Barnie's coffee place (like Starbucks), they sell it by the pound as well.

I dont have one around here. Just placed the order for the Tanzi, cant wait to try it out!

Mmmmm coffee. I used to be a bit of a snob when it came to coffee but i have toned it down considerably.

My wife used to get on me about brewing an entire pot of coffee and having only one cup, so she just bought me a Koerig machine. I hated it at first, but it is growing on me. One great cup of coffee and no parts to clean. I know this is not in the same legue as the machines you guys are looking and talking about. But for a day-to-day machine in the home or in a customer waiting area, it is good stuff. It does have its own filter cup so you can add what ever beans you like and you can tell it exactly what tempterature you want it to come out at (185 being the minimum).

Kon ais still my favorite for the same reasons as Mike, but it is cost prohibitive. I like it so much I don;t drink it. I order a 1-pound bag every Christmas as a treat.

I lean towards a Chemex coffee maker for good coffee. It is completely manual, uses filter paper, makes the most of out your coffee, and is very reasonable. You have to boil your own water, pour your own water over the grinds, but you get the very hot (205 degrees, not boiling) water over the grinds and makes great coffee.

Oddly, my parents used these back in the 60's, and only recently have I acquired a small one.

I got a single cup brewer last Christmas and I love it. It's the cheaper model, but it does its job.

Sure the coffee cups are more expensive, but you get a fresh, gourmet brew every time. There's not a day that goes by where I don't wake up with 2 cups of coffee every morning, and I love it.

Great to see some more coffee lovers on here. Being from Europe, it's hard to deal with the stuff Americans brew and dare to call coffee... You're not supposed to be able to see the bottom of the cup people! :help:

Brendon, I think you can't go wrong with either machine you listed. You're definitely in the right price range; great espresso machines are $1,500 and up.

What many people don't know is how important the bean grinder is. You can ruin the best coffee beans with a cheap grinder!

I have a Saeco myself. It's in my office as the wife is not a great coffee lover like me and it gets more use here than it would at home ;)

I got mine at Seattlecoffeegear.com, have you checked them out? They have awesome customer service and they specialize in refurbished machines with a full warranty!

From personal experience with other appliances of theirs, NOTHING in the world beats a Miele. They are truly in a league of their own.

Thanks guys for the coffee bean recommendations. I love Illy myself but that stuff is pricey...

Let us know what machine you decide on and how you like it!!

My first job was a 7-4 shift working for US Steel when I was 18.

Subsequently, the place I first learned the benefits of coffee. Coffee that is so strong you need a blender to be able to drink it.

I think the Irish were trying to make coffee based on discriptions from the Euopean discription an ended up with Guiness thinking coffee was a beer.

I met a girl in Paris many years ago who was trying to find the English word to discribe our American coffee. The best she could do was "toilet" coffee. But that isn't what she meant. LOL. A french cafe noir is very different from my black coffee.

So here is a question for you guys: Who has the best coffee when you are out and about? Personnaly, I rather like 7-11's black mountain roast. Not the best but for a gas station coffee it really doesn't get much better and it is consistant. Duncin' doughnuts is good too.

For me, "good coffee" must be at least espresso. Believe it or not, but the local Village Inn has an espresso bar that makes a very decent cup of Joe.

i'm not a big coffee drinker, but when its cold out, my wife likes to go to Starbucks and get hot chocolate, and i usually prefer their caramel macchiato, but i sometimes change it up with something seasonal just to try it out.

I quit coffee and caffeine cold turkey the first Thursday in January of this year.

I don't miss it, though I do love the smell of coffee brewing and I do miss that.

Now why would you go and do that? Caffeine is good for you! :)

Now all that 4-hour energy crap on the other hand, I don't know about that. I predict a class action law suit in about 10 years when they find out that stuff causes cancer and birth defects

60 cup purcolator, w fresh ground from beans. Generally 8 Oclock bean, obviously different class than the $1500 machines, but serves us well. The percolator makes it better than drips.

When were out I prefer Wawa, northeast gas n go...

Just like everything else we use in society.

I tried one of those 5 hour energy drinks the other day and like clock-work, 5 hours later I had a TERRIBLE stomach cramp that lasted throughout the night. I'll stick with coffee/a random red bull

5 hour intestinal spasm for me, yuck!

Back when I used to drink coffee I loved Cafe`Cubano when I was down in Florida.

Cafe Cubano (Cuban Coffee) (INeedCoffee.com)

We love Swedish Egg Coffee around these parts. This is the same way Grandma Nystrom made it:

The Pickled Herring: Swedish Egg Coffee Tutorial

We have that same coffee pot too! It translates to: Coffee is the best of all drinks on earth.

I've been drinking Peet's Sumatra for the last week or so, not bad at all. I had tried giving up caffeine a few months ago due to some sleeping issues but that didn't go well at all :willy::willy::willy:

I'm still using my Keurig and will until the day it dies, if it ever does. It's not fancy but it does a decent job. I don't drink anything other than a basic cup of coffee so the extra features on some of those machines would be lost on me. But knowing me I'll probably order one tonight :lolsmack:

We love our Keurig. On our second one in about 10 years. Price per cup isn't too bad when you amortize over that long if a period of time.

I must say, the best cup of coffee I have ever had was a Thomas Keller's Bouchon Bakery.

Who knew heaven was under an escalator, in Las Vegas of all places.

The beans weren't anything real special either. Just Lavazza.
