Jerseykid Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 First off, i would to thank every single person who gave me advice or commented in my intro thread, and my mid detail thread. It does mean alot and does not go unnoticed. With that being said , ill get to the story. I own a sadly neglected 2011 WRX which was never properly cleaned on delivery and or ever after that. Car had one coat of wax thrown on it at my job in the year i've owned it. I had to work outside since my step dad refuses to let me clean out the garage, so i picked up a 12x12 canopy and 2 500 watt lights. I bought the PC kit, and this is what followed. Here goes ... 2 Bucket wash Clay 1 Pass Swirl and Haze on hood/trunk FMP MSS Planning on nice wash, including doing the wheels since i skipped them this time,in the next 2 weeks and adding buttery or americana. Some before pictures. Take note of the headlight haze. It really bothered me. Time to bust out the Adam's Army. First passes on the hood. This is really where i started to get worried. Pictures are of the trunk and top of the rear bumper. First pass along the top of the bumper. Aghhh . This was part of the trunk. After.... whew Got the bug guts and some more rust spots up off the bumper. Car was gleaming after the 3.5 hours of claying. Taped up! Tried to find some swirls but wasn't having luck with the lights. I guess white is just that much more difficult. I know they are there but i guess ill just have to re-do this process in a garage with good lighting in the future. I settled for a pass of swirl and haze on the hood and trunk. Here is the pad after the FMP. I wiped the car down before i hit it, but working outside especially after the 2 hours of rain ... i guess i probably did more damage then good but i didnt want to let the car sit outside any longer with no protection. Final results after the Sealant. Paint looks great to my eye, feels so smooth and it was finally ... shiny. My car hasn't been shiny since i got it. And my favorite ... All in all, it was a huge learning experience , i did try to cram alot into one day . The rain really screwed me , but ive got a basic knowledge and idea of what to do for the next time. My buddy wants me to try it on his car, he has a black gc8 impreza. He also has a garage. So we will see how it goes. I went through almost the whole block of clay, and about 45oz of detail spray. Once again, thank you everyone ... and thanks for looking too. Comments and critiques are always welcomed
Z71_Denali Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 i love those new scoobie's! you did a great job! FWIW, to save you several hours of claying next time, if you see those iron spots that are TOUGH to clay, get an iron cut product to dissolve them before claying. its an extra step but it will save you time in claying.
3PedalMINI Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Looks awesome man! great work! where in NJ are you again? love them WRX's
teksmabrep Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Looks great! Sweet ride as well. Sent from Signature Blue! Auto Detailing
mc2hill Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Great work DJ! I really like the WRX's too. As you found it is not easy see the defects on white, but it looks much shinier. When you work on your friends black car it will be very easy to see any swirls.
fdresq4 Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Great job DJ. BTW, where was the parking lot that you took the final pictures at?
Jasssc Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Nice! That Subie looks sweet! Love the direction they went with them Get some tint on those front windows right now! And start the modding!
Chase@InsanePaint Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Great job kid!!! That's a little BEAST of a ride.
JBlack151 Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Great job! That thing looks sweet! I just bought ny wife a new Impreza and I caught myself wanting a WRX for me. Seeing yours makes me want one even more! Again, amazing job! Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
Jasssc Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Great job! That thing looks sweet! I just bought ny wife a new Impreza and I caught myself wanting a WRX for me. Seeing yours makes me want one even more! Do it!! Pull that trigger!
LDM Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Your Subie looks great Dj. As you found it's hard to find the swirls to correct them on a light colored car, but the good news is it's also hard to see any when you're done.
Jerseykid Posted May 7, 2012 Author Posted May 7, 2012 car looks great man!! love subies! Thank you, i've been a subaru fan my whole life. I've owned other cars, but nothing compares. i love those new scoobie's! you did a great job! FWIW, to save you several hours of claying next time, if you see those iron spots that are TOUGH to clay, get an iron cut product to dissolve them before claying. its an extra step but it will save you time in claying. Thank you, and i had no idea about that kind of product. Sadly, i didnt even really know it was iron/dust spots ... i just assumed it was dirt. :smacks forhead: Great work DJ! I really like the WRX's too. As you found it is not easy see the defects on white, but it looks much shinier. When you work on your friends black car it will be very easy to see any swirls. It was definitely much harder then i thought to see the defects. I found a few scratches near the rear bumper i was able to remove. So it worked on obvious ones Great job DJ. BTW, where was the parking lot that you took the final pictures at? Ferry parking lot in Belford. Its nice and open so i was hoping the sun shining on the car would be easier to see. :jawdrop:wow Good job Dj Thank you! I did that exact same face when i saw the claybar from the top of the bumper. Nice! That Subie looks sweet! Love the direction they went with them Get some tint on those front windows right now! And start the modding! In NJ, you can't have tint on the front windows . I had tint on my SRT-4 in the front and had to remove it. However, the car already has some mods. More will come eventually i hope. It has on it now ... 25MM Spacer Adapters STi Wheels STi Front lip STi TS Rear Spoiler BC Coils Cobb Intake with Airbox Cobb Stage 1 Ark Catback Looks great DJ! Love that White. Thank you, Satin White Pearl is hands down my favorite color. Took me months to find this car. Lots of subarus around here are blue or black, no many whites. Great job! That thing looks sweet! I just bought ny wife a new Impreza and I caught myself wanting a WRX for me. Seeing yours makes me want one even more! Again, amazing job! Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2 You say caught yourself like its a bad thing? They are a great car, i cant say enough about them. They look aggressive, they have power, they are excellent in snow, maintenance prices aren't too bad. Insurance prices are great too actually. Your Subie looks great Dj. As you found it's hard to find the swirls to correct them on a light colored car, but the good news is it's also hard to see any when you're done. Thank you very much. And your absolutely right, i guess it kinda evens out. If i don't see them, they arent there, right? And to everyone else who commented, thank you very much. It really does mean alot to me.

They look aggressive, they have power, they are excellent in snow, maintenance prices aren't too bad. Insurance prices are great too actually. If I could find a fully loaded WRX for a good price I think I would do it. When we were looking for my wife's Subaru we found out our good friends father was a part of the Subaru R&D team that developed what is now their AWD system. So even though he is retired now we got on the Subaru VIP Program and got the car for 3% under dealers cost which was huge. This program also gave us a huge discount with Liberty Mutual for insurance. So I could essentially grab a new one for a great price! I just want one of these so I can still have fun on our winter snowboarding trips to Vermont without worrying about the driving conditions. I had to come back and look at yours again, along with the one in the Adam's Quick Sealant video too. And yes, I've been looking for some WRX's online this morning.

Thats a huge compliment, thank you honestly. Thats incredible though, with that type of discount there is no reason you shouldn't own one! Mine is a base , nothing fancy.Just Ipod, aux and bluetooth. I would have liked the heated seats, sunroof, heated windsheild/mirror and fogs but the extra 3k on the price was just to much. However i did love the fact the base has no rear spoiler, made it nice and easy to put the TS spoiler on . I wouldn't be worried driving the car in any condition, however i do recommend getting some real snow tires. The factory dunlops are not the greatest thing by any means for snow driving. An extra set of rims with some blizzacks and you'll be set for life. But If it helps you any, i bought mine brand new with all weather mats for $25,125.
