Question

Okay,I pretty much spent 3 days working on my car. It's a fairly new car,a 2011 Mustang and it's black of course! What a workout!I messed up a couple steps but finally got it all straightened out.

First washed, then clayed,I hate when i drop my piece of clay on the garage floor, like throwing money in the trash! Using my new PC pack/kit I just Bought from Adams I followed up with swirl and haze remover, since it was new,I didn't need the severe stuff. Then I went with the FMP,then Machine sealant wax.My first mistake was putting on glaze then doing the sealant, had to redo my area once I realized that was wrong. So with sealant on,I let it cure for about 18 hours, then wiped it off.Let it set again for another 12 hours, rewiped. Then I got a coat of Americana on it.Well it looks beautiful!I realized after I got the Americana off, that i forgot the dang dang glaze!

Questions...

1.Will it do any good to apply the glaze now?

2.Can I maintain my hard work with the glaze or should I use something like the buttery for maint.

3.I know Adam said in one of his videos that this is therapeutic,Now I for sure have some issues but I got more therapy than I bargained for this weekend!:lolsmack:

4.So how long can I expect all this hard work to last?I sure don't want to have to do all this work very often. So I watched junkmans videos on the Cali duster and using waterless washes. Will my hard work help with the rain? Before I did this, when it rain,my car really looked like crap,etching,spots,film.. Yuck.Hoping the waxing helps with all that.:xfingers:

Remind we why I bought a black car again?!:D

From what I understand, owning a black car is a constant work in progress. If you get your washing technique perfect then you may be able to maintain the nice "just polished" look for a while.

The sealant will last a good long time and you also said you added Americana on top of that? Well it should be a while before you need to wax again. It all depends on how often you wash and if your car is sitting outside and if it is a daily driver etc.... Just keep an eye on the water beading. When it doesn't bead up anymore it is definitely time to re-wax.

I'd say wait until you wash your ride next then apply the glaze over top of the americana.

2.Can I maintain my hard work with the glaze or should I use something like the buttery for maint.

If your wash technique is perfect, you can mainting your perfection with a coat of americana once a month Depending on how many times you wash your car. I wash once a week and only apply Americana once every month and a half.

3.I know Adam said in one of his videos that this is therapeutic,Now I for sure have some issues but I got more therapy than I bargained for this weekend!:lolsmack:

4.So how long can I expect all this hard work to last?

With a proper wash/dry technique, you won't have to put in as much time on your next detail as you did today. Next time around you might just need to hit a few spots that have minor swirls, which might be removeable with FMP. I say You shouldn't have to bust out the polisher until the fall.

MIke, you don't need to wait 18 hours to cure to wipe off. You wait 20 mins, wipe off then wait 12-24 hours and then wipe down the car again.

1.Will it do any good to apply the glaze now?

Yes! It will make it pop like crazy! But it will quickly disappear as it provides no protection, so it is not optimal to apply right now. Do it at your next maint. Put it underneath you coat of wax

2.Can I maintain my hard work with the glaze or should I use something like the buttery for maint.

Definitely don't maintain with glaze as it offers no protection. Use either buttery, Americana, or one of the sealant for this

4.So how long can I expect all this hard work to last?I sure don't want to have to do all this work very often. So I watched junkmans videos on the Cali duster and using waterless washes.

DO NOT USE THE CALI DUSTER!! You have to have some amazing skills to pull this off, (I'm still skeptical that this is even possible) it will micro swirl your paint the second it touches your paint. Only use the waterless wash or better, a classic two bucket wash.

Will my hard work help with the rain? Before I did this, when it rain,my car really looked like crap,etching,spots,film.. Yuck.Hoping the waxing helps with all that.:xfingers:

The rain should bead up and roll away!

It is the most rewarding and satisfying color to step back and realize all that hard work was 100% worth it. Plus it makes the neighbors jealous

I'm with you on that. I try to aviod the dusty roads for a little while.

I suppose if you live on a dirt road that you have no choice though. :willy:

Black cars are beautiful especially when detailed correctly. My previous Black Charger would almost blind you. :D

Man, your rims are blinging!

LOL. I am still afraid to take my car out of my garage nonetheless drive it on a paved road!!!

I would take a pass on the Cali duster. I don't seen the benefits vs. what it will do to the paint, especially if the junk on the finish is not just 'dust' and swirls up the paint. At that point, I go straight to washing. My Cali duster sits in a box in the garage, unused after the initial trials. Just not worth it for me.

Personally I like the California car duster! I use it before I "waterless wash" my car to remove some of the loose debris before rubbing on my paint. Seems to be working well for me at the moment, but I guess time will tell. Detailing is a work in progress at all times. Recently a friend of mine ran his hand across my paint to feel how smooth it was and inside it felt like he was scratching a chalkboard....AAARRRRGGH!!!!
