Quick Sealant Nozzle Help

BRZN

Question

Posted

I washed the daily driven Dodge Saturday and noticed how covered the front bumper was with bugs. After reading Chris' thread: http://www.adamsforums.com/forums/tips-tricks/17544.htm I figured I'd give the Quick Sealant a try on the front end of the Magnum to see how it'd work at ease of future removal of the little critters.

I think I've used the can five times since its purchase with no troubles. Saturday, when I pushed down on the nozzle the sealant would come out just fine, but when I'd release it, the nozzle would pop off with pressure. I figure there's some sealant residue dried in there causing the restriction and build up of pressure. I'd not cleared or cleaned the nozzle after the previous uses. I picked the dried sealant off the end that I could see with a pin and scrubbed what I could reach with a toothbrush and some diluted APC but it didn't seem to make much of a difference. I've also now soaked it for an hour or so in a mix of APC 50-50 with water, but haven't tried it again yet.

Anyone else have this issue? If so, how'd you clear the nozzle, or keep it from clogging?

What about turning can upside down like a spray paint can and shoot till clearing of nozzel, yes a small waste of product but better then whole can.

Haven't had this issue and this is the first I have heard of this issue. I would talk to Ashley and see if they have had anyone else experience this.

Keep your finger on the nozzle and try not to just pop it when releasing after spraying. It's not due to residue in the nozzle. I have been having the same problem with brand new cans.

I misunderstood the OP question and posted my response accordingly... :loser:

Correction - the nozzle on my Spray Sealant can pop off when stopping spray. I have had this issue with not only the Spray Sealant but also the In and Out Spray (both appear to have the same nozzle). I lost a In and Out Spray nozzle when applying it in an engine compartment (and the nozzle fell into a frame member) so I ended up sharing a nozzle between the In and Out Spray and the Spray Sealant. I am now more careful with the nozzle. :D

The nozzles come off easily... partly by design so they can be cleaned in the event of a clog. I've only had one that needed cleaning... I did a pretty prolonged spray with it, then left it sitting and when I came back it was completely backed up.

Popped the nozzle off, turned upside down, poured IPA over it and let it sit... flushed with water and it was ready to go.

I'd suggest keeping your finger over the top of the nozzle... if we were to make them hard fixed to the spout then clogs could become a problem.

No guys this isn't normal, and it hadn't happened before the cans reuse this past Saturday. I've never had a nozzle do this before and it's popping off under pressure. After spraying and releasing the spray it pops off with a distinct "popping" sound: it's under pressure because it hasn't vented everything out the end yet.

I don't really need to contact Ashley regarding this, I just wanted to see if any forum members using the product have had the same thing happen.

I think there's a spent can of In & Out Spray in the trash, I'll go pull its nozzel off in case it's needed later.

OH... so you're saying after spraying/releasing if you were to sit it down it shoots the head off by itself? Thats definitely weird.

Would almost seem as if a small leak in the can would have to be present to keep enough pressure there to pop it.

Sorry Dylan, I was writting my last post as you put up #6 and I didn't read it. No it doesn't pop off after sitting the can down it's as I'm spraying it and releasing it from spraying that it comes off.

It's no big deal as long as it keeps spraying product, it's just a nuisance having to reattach the nozzle when I want to spray again.

I did locate the can of I&O Spray I'd thrown out Saturday. I can blow through its nozzle just fine, the Quick Sealant nozzle: I'll blow a blood vessel in my head if I blow any harder, I can only get a small amount of air to pass through. I'll try IPA to clear it. But I should be fine with the nozzle form the I&O can.

The I&O Spray nozzle worked just fine, so I'm good. Just need to figure a good way to keep it from clogging, going to try the IPA to keep it clean. Thanks

I have had this happen? I actually lost the nozzle for a while and found it later under the car. Seems to build more pressure in the can when it is warm (makes sense) I also found this on say my 4th use.
