02Xtreme07ss Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Anyone local to this area have a recommendation for an area to stay in and/or a decent hotel somewhere between Hanover, MD (Bass Pro Shops) and Washington, DC? Visiting the family in NJ this week and wanted to take the wife down to DC for a tour of the monuments and museums. I'd like to stay about an hour outside of of DC preferably somewhere safe and clean. Thanks in advance for the recommendations.

I'd suggest staying near a metro so that you can just park your car and take the train into DC (it's just 20-30 minutes or so from the Shady Grove, Rockville, Twinbook, Whiteflint or Groversnor Metro stops -- maybe look for a hotel very close to one of those. The above are all on the Metro "Red Line", and all are in "good parts" of the area. For location and convenience this Hilton is hard to beat, but it may be pricey.
02Xtreme07ss Posted May 9, 2012 Author Posted May 9, 2012 Thanks Rich. I'll be taking a look later tonight.
mc2hill Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 It has been several years since we were there, but we stayed in Alexandria, hear the beltway. The hotel offered free shuttle service to the train station and to Old Town Alexandria. It is the other side of DC from NJ, but Alexandria was very nice.
3PedalMINI Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Look into Old Town Alexandria! i have been there so many times. My dad works for boeing so he does alot of business in DC. Instead of staying in DC we always stay in alexandria at the metro end near the Free Mason's temple. It is an awesome little town, super safe and alot of cool things to see/do/eat. You can also take a free shuttle down to the river, catch a boat and go over to the new "National Harbor". Its on the maryland side, this is your best bet if you coming into NJ/PA as its only 2 1/2 hours and right on the beltway. Metro ride is only 20 minutes or so into DC and 35 minute ride into the smithsonian stations. Did i mention its super safe We stay at either the marriot residence inn, its about a block or two away from the metro Residence Inn Old Town Alexandria VA hotel | Alexandria extended stay hotel | Alexandria suites Or the Hilton. This is literly right across the street from the metro. Alexandria Hotels - Hilton Alexandria Old Town Hotel, VA - Virginia Or if we cant get in either we'll stay at embassy. Also across the street from the metro. They have an AWESOME breakfast. Old Town Alexandria Hotel - Embassy Suites Alexandria VA Hotel Also, when your in DC and if your into mexican take the wife to Rosa Mexicano. They have one near the FBI building right across from the verizon center and another one over at the national harbor. Simply the best mexican restaurant i have ever been to. super nice and awesome atmosphere. Rosa Mexicano Restaurants | Locations | Washington, DC (Penn Quarter)
chas Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 As a DC metro resident all of the recommendations above are top notch. I will be a little partial and say go for Alexandria since I am two miles away in Arlington and love the area. Enjoy your stay!
