Paint chip repair prior to detailing. Thoughts?

Hi everyone. First post.

I ordered Dr. Colorchip alongside my first Adam's purchase and was planning on cleaning up the front end of my vehicle (where 99% of the damage is) before going bonkers with the other detail products. Given enough time to dry and seal, is there any reason to think that these paint chips will be affected negatively during the porter cable phases of my detail? In my head I imagine doing the paint chip repair before polishing, but after claying, to insure I'm getting maximum results throughout the process. Dr. Colorchip provides you with matching OEM paint for your vehicle as well as a sealant. I'm sure most of you are familiar with it.

Thoughts?

Cory, welcome. :welcome:I'll let others with more knowledge chime in with the correct answer. I will say though that your screen name made me laugh out loud! :lolsmack:

I think you have the right idea. I'm basically doing the same with my car, though I never seem to get around to doing the chips... And thus I haven't yet gotten around to the polishing. :willy:

You do your polishing first, then repair the chips, then finish with MSS, BG and APW.

Wow I was just about to post this myself also as I have recently made my first order to adams.

And I wanted to know just like you, if using the PC on a paint chip, if it would affect it negatively.

Meaning Will it make the chip bigger or worse? I'm guessing that your question because that's what mine is.

As my chip on my hood, is a good one, you can see that it took out the clearcoat and the paint, so the thought of a machine spinning on it and making it bigger scares me.

To those in the know, please respond, thanks.

I was primarily concerned with the order of operations, as I'm gearing up for a full detail soon. As you can imagine, Adam's has caused me to add several (and I think necessary) steps to my workflow.

Ah, now that makes perfect sense. I've got all of that other product, but I figured since I'm going all out with this detail, I should clean up the paint chips along the way.

From what I have read on other forums, people seem to recommend multiple passes in order to "fill" in the chips.

Are you planning on putting some clear coat on top of the paint?

I have the beautiful new black car and only had it for 3 weeks and I have a chip on it also.

I was thinking of going with dr. colorchip, but I also saw that Applied Colors, has a similar system "kit".

The one thing that I noticed about them is that they also give you some putty filler, in case you have a big scratch.

I'm not sure which one to get??

I'm coating the chips with the sealant provided after they are filled in, but have no plans to clear coat anything. The full PC detail I'm gearing up for should offer enough protection for my needs after the fact. In my case, the chips are several many dozens in number, but very minuscule in size. Most of them are from trucks driving over the shoulder on the highway I take every morning.
