I've just about had it living in New Orleans. I guess it is a nice place to visit, but once you have lived here all your life it's just another garbage can in life. I'm getting to the point where I'm seriously thinking of retiring. This morning I'm on my way to work and a traffic report comes on the radio and I hear the following..

"Traffic is building up on Franklin Avenue back to Esplanade. There are reports that there is a body in the road." Are you kidding me? Now we have traffic issues in the morning because idiots are shooting each other in the middle of the street.

With real estate being a buyers market, I'm looking at picking up a retirement home somewhere either in Utah or Colorado. I'm tied of looking at trashed houses, garbage in the streets and drive by reports every morning on the news.

Does anyone live in or near Provo or Park City Utah? Not sure about areas in Colorado yet, but having Adam's there just might push me to the Rockies!

Crime is everywhere, No matter where u go

That's not what he's getting at. Of course rime is every where.

I don't blame you I would want to move to. Hell I live in new yorks garbaage pit and cannot wait to flea this place. The people, the attitudes, the cost of living, the area, the disrespect etc just gets old. I'm 22 and HATE where I live. It's home for now and I'm grateful that I have a roof but as soon as I can comfortably afford to I'm over a bridge 40 minutes outside of Philly. Only coming into jersey to visit the rents or work.

The people, the smells etc just start waring on you and it's time to move to better things. Good luck! :)

Im right with you .. Connecticut is overrated and way too expensive. One of the highest tax states in the nation. Now we have a new (D)Governor that has raised taxes the highest in the states history. He is out of control with his spending. A lot of people here are snobs. Real estate is crumbling and cost of living going up. Anyone who is planning on coming to CT ..Dont!!! Taxes alone will kill you.

I have been looking for work out of state. Its hard to find a decent job these days.

My friend just moved to CO and loves it out there. But than again ..I feel most other places are better than CT and the north east.

It will be hard since Im 43 and want to start over in a new state.

Take a look at oregon. It's a beautiful state, housing is relatively inexpensive, and we have no sales tax. Just be prepared for rain.

My cousin lives out in Oregon and loves it but the rain all the time is forcing her to look elsewhere. ;o)

I visited Portland, Albany, Corvallis, Newport, Bend and even went to see Crater Lake while I was out there for 10 days last year. Let me tell you, Bend, Oregon has my hook, line and sinker. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL area out there with a lot to do. Housing was cheap last year when I was out there and everyone that I met and was around was so laid back and easy going it was unreal.

I'm honestly thinking about when I'm ready for retirement to go there. It's either there or Australia. :D

dead bodies in the middle of the street aren't really all that common here in south texas though. :grouphug:

I've been to many places in the US including New Orleans, and while it's cool to visit, that's ALL I'd like to do. There's nothing better than small town USA IMO. I'm 3 hours from downtown Chicago and IMO it's just perfect. There's around 400,000 in my community (5 cities) so we get some decent stores and restaurants, but if I want to do some major shopping, it's only a few hours drive. A new rail service is going in soon and then BAM! A cheap, low stress method to get to Chicago.

Been living in Co for 30+ years, I love it and doubt I will ever move. Weather is excellent, winters here in Arvada, just a few minutes north of Denver, are great. Sure it snows but usually melts away in a few days, little to no humidity. Summerside great. I always say here, one has just about everything they need except the ocean. No humidity and few bugs is a reasonable trade off. The Colorado Rockies offer some of the most beautiful places to visit in USA! If you want more info, shoot me a pic and I willgive you a call. And...... Adams is about 20 minutes from here!!!

That is the biggest misconception about Oregon is that it rains all the time. It only rains all the time in in the Willamette Valley and costal areas. 2/3 of Oregon is High Desert and very dry. Now the largest chunk of population lives in the rainy area, but most of the state is fairly dry.

Bend is a very nice area. The weather is pretty nice, lots to do in the area. It does not get the rain like the Willamette Valley and Coast, and it does not get as much snow as other places in the Eastern 2/3 of Oregon. Bend only gets about 12 inches of Precipitation each year.

Lots of homes for sale for a good price, and like others have mentioned no Sales Tax in Oregon, but we have income and property tax. I live in Klamath Falls about 3 hours south of Bend and we have a very similar climate. Klamath Falls and Bend are very much alike except for the fact that Bends Population exploded in the 90s and 2000s where Klamaths did not.

To me there is no place better in this world than living on the eastern edge of the Oregon Cascade Mountains. The scenery is beautiful, The people are friendly, the weather is late spring, summer, and fall is amazing

I grew up in Colorado and cannot wait to hopefully move back some day. I live in the DC metro area now in Virginia, and I can't begin to describe how rude and petty people can be around here. Granted I love the city to death and love so many aspect of being here, but the traffic, the congestion, the amount of people, the crime is really getting to me. The cost of living alone is outrageous! My rents moved to Pittsburgh a year ago and they say its a breathe of fresh air being there compared to DC. My blood pressure drops anytime I am away for the weekend. I loved every minute of Colorado and wouldn't hesitate to move back job/family permitting. I am only 25 and DC has everything I could imagine to be active but I can't sustain a healthy financial future here.

By the way, Northern Virginia should be considered a separate state from the rest of Virginia. 30 miles south of DC is amazing country and amazing people and good life.

I love NOLA and I go there several times a year to visit friends and family, but I'm not sure I'd move there. First of all, I don't know how any car enthusiast can tolerate the terrible streets!

Two of my cousins that grew up there have moved to Colorado (Denver area) and love it. CO is great, but you may be in for a bit of a culture shock...of course, that may be what you're looking for.
