G8chick

Question

Posted

Just got my first order of Adams product in and i think i got flex pads cuz a sticker said i would get the other ones when they got in. Sat is looking beautiful so far, that's the project date lol. Shop open from 8-5 so I'm hoping if I work non stop I'll be able to get her all done! Car has lots of swirls ( sat on the lot for a yr) it's a sport red G8; I'm so looking foreward to what the results will look like. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, I'm working one panel at a time. Taping off half the hood I just really wanna see the before and after like that lol. I will post pics on here after I'm done; I prob gotta bring diesel (my blue heeler) with me so I'm hoping he's not to much of a pester

PS: no one told me the machine weighed a ton!

Tape off the bright work around the doors and the black flat trim around the doors. The bright work scratches and the flat black shows the polish.

Tape off the antenna, and rubber around either side of the windshield too!

Good luck!

Ok so after calling around trying to hunt down some Americana wax locally.. I found a place in Calgary that is a dealer.. No Americana tho they're sold out so buttery wax it is! Also going to pick up some waterless wash that they have to. I know you've been waiting for pics I will put them up once I've done glaze, buttery. I put glaze on then the buttery on top correct?

That would be correct. Also don't be disappointed about using Buttery Wax, it is a great wax itself. It was first called Butter Wax and it will look great when you get it applied. It goes on easy and comes off very easy, just be sure to apply a thin coat. But I will still use Buttery Wax without hesitation and it really looks and lasts pretty darn well.

Unless it has changed, Adam told me that the Glaze contains a cleaner and will not only work as a glaze but will also assist in cleaning the finish, hence my reason for saying the glaze should be used first, but it does make sense to use the sealant first on bare paint, but I know the glaze doesn't offer any protection for the finish.

You are correct that BG does not have any protection. They do recommend applying BG and topping that with Americana to allow BG to last longer.

You got it backwards. The MSS needs to go on clean bare paint to bond properly. Then you can add glaze and a coat of wax on top.

Actually the sealants (MSS or QS) go on the paint and anything eslse (BG, Americana, or Buttery) go on top.

Hmm, I am sure that Adam told me and the videos both said that the Glaze offers very little protection and reduces the length the sealant lasts...that's why I suggested that the Glaze be used before the Sealant.

If you are talking about Brilliant Glaze, it really needs to go on before the Sealant, really the car looks great all you really need to do if you want a little more "pop" is a coat of Buttery Wax or Americana.

Wow, looks great, you did a great job. Just FYI, since you have already applied the Sealant, I would wait until you are ready to do another detail. Well it took me 14 hrs but I got it done!! My shoulders, wrists and knees hurt today lol but it was worth it. Here's a few pics for now I'll put more after I put the glaze on. Had to use SSR SHR FMP and the sealant.

Ok so Tom is the big day! I'm excited and nervous lol I don't want to screw up; I'm watching the videos again tonight, took some notes the other day so I'll have those with me. Picked up some painters tape as well. I will try to get some before pics as well. But my car will be a bit dirty cuz well no point in washing it. Then I'll post pics of my finished product! I'll be at the shop to start at 8am sharp! Hoping I can get it all done by 5 so I don't have to do it outside in the sun.. But I will if it comes down to that

Don't be nervous just dive right into it. By tomorrow evening you will be tired but I'm betting you will be wowed and very proud of how good you car will be looking. Adam's is great stuff and you really can't mess it up. I remember my first detail with Adam's...all I kept saying to myself as I finished it, was wow, wow, wow!!!Good luck, looking forward to pics.

Can't get more detail spray ? took over 2 weeks for my first order to arrive. My rims were here in less then 1 week and had 2x the distance to travel. If all else fails I can use my meguires quick detailer for claying. Paint just needs to be lubed up lol

Do like I said...

You can also clay the car right after washing while the car is wet if you like. It's the only way I do mine now. I use a mixture of car shampoo and water in a spray bottle and go at it. Since I know I'm polishing afterward, I'm not too worried about imparting a bit of micro-mars into the paint.

Nice purchase... I suggest maybe getting a gallon of detail spray before you start this weekend. 16oz of detail spray wont last you through the claying process and polishing.

I agree, get the gallon. It will save you time and money.

Agreed, you can never have too much Detail Spray. Also, be prepared to spend a little time using the Swirl Remover, you will be amazed at how much better your paint will look after using it.

It doesn't weigh anything when it's sitting on the car! lol

Watch and re-watch the Adams videos. It'll take some time, so don't rush. Just my re-correction of my G8 WITH a Flex, took 6 hours this spring. Perfection takes time. If it's your DD, don't get too wrapped up on perfection. The G8 clear is VERY soft and will not stay corrected for long.
