chas Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Saw this while reading through Autoblog earlier, pretty incredible if you ask me. I'm sure you VW diesel guys will be gloating. This seriously makes me consider a diesel when I make my next car purchase. Over 80 mpg is insane let alone going 1,600 miles on a single tank. 320 miles on my Jeep now seems like peanuts. High-MPG Taylors drive a Volkswagen Passat 1,626 miles on one tank of diesel
ChargerMatt Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 I really am considering getting a diesel VW depending on how much travel this new job really entails. Those numbers are just crazy, and the diesel engine will last longer than I will!
Chewy Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 I saw that! It's 84.25mpg but they were hypermiling. I believe their top speed was 56mph with an average of around 38mph. It's a DANG good number, but these folks are professionals and teach the process. They're also sponsored by Shell I believe. Hmmm... A friend of ours has a 2012 Jetta TDI and gets 40+ with mixed (mostly city) driving. I just don't like where VW is heading. They used to be a higher quality car company, but now that they want to dominate the world, they've really lowered the quality of their interiors. The TDI has been a great little engine though.

Yeah I had the same concerns regarding quality when mulling my last vehicle purchase. I would almost want to buy new to get the warranty and know exactly what happened to the car. I contemplated buying used but couldn't bring myself to it since I may not know each detail of its past. Still good cars though, loyal following, and good engines.
ArablueRS3 Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 And i thought my wife had great MPG with her 06' Jetta TDI. She gets a little over 50 city and i'm at a whopping 18 city. But, on the bright side i have better smiles per gallon!
BrianT Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 My wife's Hemi Jeep GC gets close to that, In town mileage is about 11!:lolsmack:
