07RS4 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Okay, quick question. I've used the G2 paint before, and it works fantastic...so I don't need advice on other products. BUT, it looks like they can color match to the existing paint on the vehicle, but the price difference is substantial. I'm want to do my wife's van...do you guys think it's worth it for the extra $60? Just curious. And yes, I know it's a mini-van, but I think it will look nice G2 Brake Caliper Paints
XQIZT Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 An EXTRA $60? I say no. Just pick a color that is a nice accent color to whatever color the van is already. JMHO.

THE Mook Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I am getting ready to order some this week...yes it will be the Special Color price. SO WORTH IT.

JBlack151 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Depends on the color red of your van I guess. If it's more of a maroon or dark red the G2 color may not go so well on it. But if you have the spare cash then I would go for the match. I did mine black 1 1/2 years ago, and I'm itching to do them over in red. I did not know they can custom match colors. Knowing this I might look into a more vibrant GM red.

JBlack151 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I'll be honest with you, it's going to be close. When I bought my SS the prior owner had the red paint on there, but he did not properly clean the calipers before so they began to chip and fade. But I think it was actually pretty close to your van in color. Here's a pic I looked for on Bing Images under "G2 Red Caliper Paint"
07RS4 Posted May 14, 2012 Author Posted May 14, 2012 Close enough for a DD Mini-van I'm thinkin'...thanks for posting the pic John.
THE Mook Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Are you getting Silver for your truck? No sir! I've got something "Heritage" related on the way.
Jasssc Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 I'm getting the special color soon... If its going to be something that I'm staring at everyday, it's going to be something special so It definitely justifys the price
savi01 Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 How easy is it to paint the calipers with this paint? I've been considering it but don't know much about brakes/calipers to take them apart to paint
JBlack151 Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 It's pretty easy. Just need time to prep the calipers correctly with the cleaner before applying. You can take the calipers off if you wish or leave them on since the kit comes with a small brush. I left mine on and it took me about 3-4 hours total. But once applied you can't drive for 24 hours or something like that. I am going to do mine over soon. When I do I plan on taking the calipers off and really smoothing them out before applying just because I know it needs to be done. Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
Big Ed5150 Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 I'd say if you are doing show car then maybe spend the money for the match but for a nice effect and look, just get a good accent color. Red always looks good.
Chase@InsanePaint Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 For a daily driver. NO. For the main sled that gets all the attention. WORTH TRIPLE THAT PRICE.
xkwj43z Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 I just orderd a kit from G2 yesterday I ended up going with black for my mazda 3. This happened to me so give it a try: make an account, add what you need to your cart, then log off. I recieved a email later that day for a free shipping coupon code and it worked.
THE Mook Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Got me some on order! The next round of mods (all for looks), begins on Monday! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAW! I will NOT share the color until the next round is complete. Therefore, the SS may not get a picture taken of it after this weekend, for 4 months. Mook
xkwj43z Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Yes read my post like 2 back, explains what happened for me and for others to try it
THE Mook Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Ah I wouldn't feel right doing that. Glad you got it though!
07RS4 Posted May 25, 2012 Author Posted May 25, 2012 My Stage III S4 I did back in '01 - '02. I used the Dremel tool with flexible extension to get all parts of the caliper, carrier, etc. spotless before I applied the G2. Before Prep Drying Prepwork Battlefield Done A4 and S4....times where good .
JBlack151 Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 I have to pick up a dremel for when I repaint mine this summer. Yours came out nice a smooth. Great job!
