Laguna Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Any detailers in CT? Got a guy who needs some detailing work done and I'm not exactly close!
Chris@Adams Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Not sure how close they are, but they may know someone. Corvette Store & More 312 East Johnson Cheshire , CT 06410 Phone: 203-710-9614 rcarclub08@aol.com
JBlack151 Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 I'm in Fairfield, CT and always willing to help out. What part of CT?
GerryC Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Corvette Store & More is owned by my friend Tony. Depending on the location of your friend, I may be able to help as well: http://www.adamsforums.com/forums/north-eastern-usa/17076.htm
TheTeflonRon Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Hi everyone! I'm the guy that needs some work. I'm located in Middletown, CT an the issue I have is my wife took the turn into the garage a bit wide one day, marking her black bumper with white paint. Clay bar took some of the paint off, but not all of it. I'm looking for ballparks on having what's left fixed professionally vs, if possible, doing the work myself. Buying equipment like a buffer, etc. being factored in of course. Here are some pictures of what I'm describing: https://picasaweb.google.com/109504234352623003206/PaintOnBumper?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCLGVmYGT-uvfgwE&feat=directlink
ledger64 Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 is it dented? looks dented in the pics. i know a couple body guys one in stafford and one in enfield
JBlack151 Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Clay bar took some of the paint off, but not all of it. Were those pictures taken before you took the clay bar to it or after?
TheTeflonRon Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Were those pictures taken before you took the clay bar to it or before? These pictures were taken this morning so this is the current state, post-clay bar. Before the clay bar, the white area was about three times that size, maybe bigger.
JBlack151 Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 After looking more at the pics I think regarless of taking a polisher to it and removing most or all of the white paint you will still be left with some kind of damage to the black paint. I guess the question is, are you okay with just minimizing the appearance of the damage? If so then somebody could probably work on this. You are about an hour from me, but I don't know when I could head your way to try and help. Or do you want the bumper to be back to it's original appearance. If so then it's time to check out some of the body shops others have suggested.

It needs some mechanical work so I'd prefer it to not also have cosmetic issues as well. Depending on the minimization of the damage, I think that would be enough.
JBlack151 Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Ron, I looked up local detailers in Middletown and I found this place. Auto Detailing Middletown, CT - A New Shine Detail Center I do not have any knowledge about their quality of work. However it may be worth a shot to give them a call and see if they can just try and polish out the area in question. Obviously if they give you some crazy estimate for this or require you to get a full detail then let me know and I will drive up and try it out. Keep me/us updated please.

TheTeflonRon Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 is it dented? looks dented in the pics. i know a couple body guys one in stafford and one in enfield Sorry, I missed this yesterday. No, it's not dented. It might look like that because I wiped the rain off of it for the pics I took.

Apparently the number on their website has been re-allocated to a mental health facility. A quick search didn't yield a new number for them so I am assuming they are no longer in business. Two auto body places I called wouldn't do phone estimates so I might have to try some others or just show up and see what happens.
TheTeflonRon Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Follow up: I took the car to Accurate Auto in East Berlin Connecticut yesterday and after a quick checkout, they think it can be buffed out. He quoted an estimate of $60 to give it a shot. I dropped the car off this morning so we'll see how it goes.
JBlack151 Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Good luck Ron. Hopefully it can be saved. Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
TheTeflonRon Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Picked the car up last night and it looks pretty darn good! There's some haze - I think most from the impact (re-looking at the 'before' pics, I can see it), but I think after a wash/wax it will look just fine! I've added two pictures to the album I posted before: https://picasaweb.google.com/109504234352623003206/PaintOnBumper?authkey=Gv1sRgCLGVmYGT-uvfgwE If anyone is in the Middletown, CT area and needs some body work done, the guy there (Freddie) was nice to deal with, and the turnaround was as fast as I could have hoped for. Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions and offers to help. I really appreciate it!
