Amount of Products used

Question

I have a question to see if I may have gone overboard on the amount of product used today.

Today was my first full detail and list of what i consumed.

2 bottles of detail (clay and detail)

1 bottle of APC

3/4 bottle of Leather and Interior cleaner

Did I go overboard a bit? The APC was used for tires/engine/pads

I may buy a gallon of Leather and Interior as well as APC cleaner.

A tad bit :) like Dylan said..

I find myself now using, after some trial and error and "going over board", use just under 8oz of DS when claying and another 4-6 on spraying the pads while polishing..Its also cut down on the amount of polish I use because you start to get a feel for when you can just spray the DS on the pad to kind of revive some of the polish in the pad for your next pass/panel.

LIC...I still have maybe a 1/4 of a 16oz left and its seen probably 8-9 cars, a little goes a long way, again like Dylan stated.

As for the APC...I still use too much to clean the tires and engine..bad habit and I need to break it, hopefully with my next order including some foaming sprayers that will help me cut down on my over use for those particular things so maybe that's an extra little tool you may want to look into getting..However I WILL go through at least 3/4 if not the entire bottle when I clean my pads as I'm very picky about their cleanliness, and probably another 1/4 bottle when I pretreat my MF towels before wash

...yes I know about the MF revitalizer and yes I'm getting it in my next order as well because I'm a :loser: and completely addicted to Adams products and loving every minute of it! :D

A word of caution on those foaming sprayers from personal experience. I bought a three pack thinking the same thing, that I would save product (especially on Green Wheel Cleaner & All Purpose Cleaner) but it was the exact opposite. It shoots out gobs and gobs of whatever you're using. I did a test vs. a regular sprayer and the foamers wasted twice as much product. Moreover, it splattered the product instead of delivering an even coat over an area. They need to tweak the nozzle a bit, unless I simply got a bad batch. Just letting you know, but check it out for yourself if you want.

:iagree:

I bought the 3 pack also and now the sprayers are sitting on the shelf, waiting for me to find another use... but I will admit, they are pretty fun to use. :D

:iagree:, I find my self using more product with the foam sprayers on APC and GWC now

+1. IMHO, the foamers work really well but at the expense of using significantly more product.

I bought the 3 pack too. I used them on APC & GWC for a "normal" detail. Great, but I used a lot more product than usual. While the foam is both useful and fun to work with, I'd guess it uses twice the amount of product as the regular sprayers. I went back to the regular sprayers.

I am keeping the foamers for "special occasions" when I've got an especially dirty/cruddy situation to deal with. Like heavy road tar in the summer or very bad brake-dust situations. APC + GWC work so well on their own that I just don't think the foamers are really that necessary unless you've got a very serious mess to clean up. Even then, I've yet to find grime that normally-sprayed, full-strength APC can't handle! :D

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way about the foaming sprayers. It seems like I use more product, have more waste, and don't get as good of coverage with them. Instead of a nice even coverage it seems to more of a splatter in a narrow path to me. Supposedly the foaming makes it "cling" better yet there always seems to be a much bigger puddle of green on the ground after APCing my tires compared to the traditional nozzles. The regular spray pattern doesn't seem to have nearly as much runoff.

Personally, I think it depends on the condition of the car you were working on. If it was really nasty, then I think it's a fair amount to use.

As for the detail spray, it may be a little much, but I've noticed I use about 3/4 a bottle when claying and maybe half or more of the bottle when I do a wipe down.

It is true, the Foaming Sprayers release more "per pull" of the juice than a standard sprayer. It takes some getting used to, realizing the direction, angles, etc. to make them effective for you.

A cheap way to do this is to mix in some Car Shampoo and tap water into a bottle. Play around with it. I am just now getting a great handle on APC. GWC, I don't really care where it hits on the surface because I am hitting the whole surface of the wheel. With the APC however, I need to make sure I don't light up my fenders and such when I hit the tires and wheel wells.

Well, shoot...

I suppose I'm just trying to become customer of the month :)

HAHA! Well... while we do appreciate your somewhat overzealous consumption of product (and frequent reorders) we don't want you to go broke cleaning your rides.

Definitely heavy on the DS and LIC... which is kind of common.

People tend to go overboard with the lubrication for clay. It doesn't take much... just a small amount to keep the clay moving.

LIC is a product where a little goes a long ways unless you're doing some seriously nasty interior cleaning. For door panels once the towel you're using is wet with LIC it can be used to wipe most areas down and that will be effective enough.

for a car i would say i use about 12 oz of detail spray for claying, priming the pad and the final wipe down....L&IC is maybe 4 oz and APC is around 12 oz which is diluted 70/30

I'd say you went overboard by quite a bit. Thats a lot of product.

Dilute the apc 50/50 with water. I used a bunch my first time also, but then learned how to use a little less.

Detail spray maybe. If you were using a 16 oz bottle. It goes really quick when claying. I can see u using another bottle for spritzing the pad and to wipe off all the polish.

Apc, I've used up a 16oz bottle before on my tires wheel wells and to clean my pads. I would say its normal. But if you used 2 32 oz bottles then you went over board!
