Tar removal "tip" yay or nay?

I think this is batsh*t crazy but before I correct my uncle, thought I'd post this here:

 

To remove tar on bumper chrome or body use pure crisco veggie oil. Let soak and wash off. You can also use Kraft mayonnaise.

 

I would never even try this. Just wondering if in some world this works without damaging the paint. The sad thing is my uncle has a nice mustang that matches his favorite college team so I'm hoping he hasn't already done this.

Plenty of inexpensive specialty products out there that will safely remove tar...no need for home remedies.  Save the food for your belly!

yes peanut butter, or peanut oil, or any kind of food oil will help remove tar, but it will also remove wax or sealant. so if you use it, be sure to reapply your favorite protectant.

 

i wish Adam's had a Bug and Tar Remover, i would use it just as much as i use APC or DS

i use waterless wash to pre treat bugs. try it. it definitely will work if you quick seal the areas the bug up. all else fails, clay gets the bugs off. :-)

Mayonnaise does work on tree sap. Havent tried it on tar?

I might get slapped for this but "Tarminator" worked wonders for me.
Not sure about the home remedies. I tried clay bar, waterless wash, apc, and basically any other product I had on hand and it didn't even sting the tar.

kerosene & water works great!

It does everything, removes tar & bugs....cleans, shines & protects from rust.

WD40 works very well and fast with a Single Soft Micro Fiber towel. I have used it then washed and waxed.
