Question about Clay and Hand Polish

etalian

Question

I put this in this sub-section because my big issue is more about the clay than the polish.

I've had this question for awhile and I've watched the Adam's videos and I'm still confused. After claying my vehicle and wiping away the clay residue, do I need to rinse or wash the vehicle again? Or is wiping away the residue enough before I polish?

What about after I polish? Is wiping away the residue enough or do I need to rinse or wash before going on to my sealant?

All towels will be Adam's Microfiber - Great white and single soft for drying (big truck is hard to dry), single soft for clay/polish/sealant and double soft for glaze/wax.

Method for this upcoming detail will be:

Strip Wash - 2 bucket w/ Shampoo and APC

New Clay Bar and Detail Spray

Revive Hand Polish

Quick Sealant

Brilliant Glaze

Buttery Wax

SVRT to plastic/rubber/trim (after using APC)

Thanks for your help. This is my first time really getting into detailing with my brand new truck. Hard to believe I'm this enthused about protecting paint on my off-road truck haha.

You can go directly over the clay residues, no reason to wash them off. The only time I do a post-clay wash and dry is if the car I'm working on was REALLY dirty and the clay pulls a lot of contamination. If its only pulling up minor stuff then theres no real need to do anything other than go right over the top.

Just wipe the polish residues off and thats it. No rinsing or washing needed.

Sounds like you've got a good handle on the process... good luck and let us know how it goes for you!

I like to wipe clean/dry the 2'x2' section I've just clayed before I hit the next section with DS and move on. I've found, especially on darker colors in higher temps, the DS residue can be a bit difficult to remove if left on the finish to dry. I think it's more of a personal preference and that's mine.

Awesome news! That will definitely save me some time with this detail! Also, I left out a step during my decontamination process. I'll be using "Brand-X" to remove iron/rail dust. I purchased this before I knew that Adam's Deep Wheel Cleaner did the same thing. That should aid in post-clay bar clean-up.

I plan to do one panel at a time. And luckily, I'll be working under a carport; so no worries about direct sunlight.
