Chrome Running Boards

McMo

Question

I went to clean my running boards today to remove the buildup of salt and other winter road stuff and this is how they turned out. I used green wheel cleaner (which I have always used) and a soft bristle brush. I also tried a test spot with all purpose cleaner and it did no better.

This staining is only on the step part of the board. The face of it turned out great, as did my chrome wheels.

Any suggestions?

Are they real chrome? Most factory wheels are "chrome" with clear coat on them.

I had a salt build up on my nerf bars but it was on the metal and a clay bar took care of that. Not sure about the plastic... Thinking some 100% APC and a brush... maybe a stiff brush. Make sure once you get it off, however you do it, to put SVRT on them to keep them from drying out.

Yes, the boards are real chrome. It's just the chrome on the step portion that has this mess on them. The plastic on the step and the chrome face of them turned out perfect, as did the wheels.

Will have to try MP 1 & 2.

Any precautions or suggestions on applying this while working around the plastic?
