Nano ceramic glass type coatings

This has been probably been asked, but I just have to ask. Are these so called new nano ceramic glass coatings a bunch of hype?

 

What I have read is interesting but if it's any better than the Adam's sealants I'm now using I would think Adam's would also offer this type of coating. So my first thought is its hype.

 

My real interest is better protection from bird droppings. After about 3 hours on my wife's black BMW and, well you know! Always looking for better protection but I want the real deal.

It's not all hype. The good ones definitely provide more protection than a traditional sealant. If you enjoy keeping your car clean and do it at least monthly, you really don't need a coating IMO.

No they are not hype.  I have a coating on the roof of my truck, my front end, wheels and glass.

I just may have to try some on my wife's car. I just got back in from washing it. I had polished the hood and applied Adam's machine sealant and a coat of Americana just last week and bugs have already etched it in several spots. The paint from hell. I just hate this paint. I guess it's back to polishing again.

Coatings are good stuff - use them on almost every detail I do. Makes everything a lot easier to clean.
