How do some of you get so many exterior jobs?

G8chick

Question

I have a ad in a couple places and have had no response. I am offering clay bar, wax, sealant, glass sealant and chrome and rim polishing. Not any interest. So how does everyone do it? Word of mouth? I like doing exteriors 100x more then interior and it's a lot less product that gets used and it is way more rewarding for me. I want to offer polishing but I've only done a few cars and I am scared if someone's car has low clear that I'll ruin the paint and not be able to fix it. Would you have a waiver for something like that? I am using a PC for polisher so I don't have to worry about a whole lot right? Any advice would be appreciated

I have cards I give out to! And my car will be getting polished this weekend. Everyone wants interiors done, yes I do them but I freaking hate it lol I work full time as head detailer at GM I do enough interior cleans already

Driving around in a clean truck doesn't hurt either.....

Once you do a few the word will be out.......and no worries your PC is safe.

Good luck!

Chris said it!!  Your own vehicle will speak to people (those that share an interest in a clean looked after one). I would think you local plays a role as well.

One thing I've learned so far is you will be giving the car back looking better then when you stated, while maybe not "95% perfect" in your eyes the customer should and most likely be goggle over it as most don't understand/care what you went through to get to this point.

They just want a shine like yours. Education this is the PR part of our endeavors.

I think the real problem is that people just don't care enough, otherwise they would keep up with their cars like people here do. My advice would be to do the interiors and try upselling the exteriors with it. Then, people will realize how bad their car actually looks, and then talk to all their friends and family about it etc. I hate interiors too but sometimes they're just a necessary evil :)

Oh..... and you want to do this as a side job as well.... I don't think I could do that. Kind of like they say a mechanics car is the worst running car because they do it all day and don't like working on them at home.

Great that you still have the passion eh!! Nothing more satisfining when it shines with no swirls !!!

Word of mouth, plus as a dealer I personally recommend a detailer I trust. So, make friends with your local dealer if you have one, and maybe give your referring customers a break on their next detail.

Word of mouth has worked great for me. What creates a problem for me is my work schedule. It's kinda hard to find a day that works for me and the customer. I also HATE neglected interiors, mainly carpet. Leather is easy for the most part. If I had more time to officially dedicate this to a "side business" I could easily get a full detail a week. To me that sounds good for as busy as I'd like to be.
