Vintage Trailer paint correction and Aluminum polish for Airstream

Comtnbykr

Question

post-8372-0-13414000-1400798522.jpg

My wife has a 69 Scottie trailer that she has restored inside and now I thought I could put some shine to it.  First it being that old and original paint what things (products or polishing) should I avoid doing to this trailer?  To be honest I have polished the front side and door and found that the door does not polish as hoped.  The door's paint when polished is removed rather than shined.  That is why I thought I would come ask the folks that have more experience in this area!

The turquoise on this trailer polishes and waxes to a nice shine! :)   The white on the other hand doesn't like the process of polishing as well, it tends to pull a lot of the paint up with the severe swirl polish.  Should I not use the severe swirl and and just use the fine machine polish?

Also think about taking on an Airstream to use the metal polish 1 & 2 Has anyone tried this?  Wondering if I could use one of the larger polishing pads or microfiber to apply or would those be too much?  Please help!

I think to achieve the shine that you are after it will take a machine & PFP and PCP.....however that being said you will have to be super careful that you don't remove the paint, I would think that the paint is pretty thin and probably no clear coat.

Why not try BG and a coat of LPS? I think you will like what you see!

As far as the MP 1 & 2 you could use the 4" Focus pads on your trim.....

Thanks for the info Chris, as for the MP I am not only doing the trim but the entire exterior of the Airstream (atleast that is the plan).  That is why I was wondering if I could use a bigger pad to accomplish this huge area.  Is there a 7 inch pad that I could use with the MP?

You could use the red or black pads for applying MP with a polisher, or the blue pads with a Cyclo. However, is the Airstream bare aluminum, or do they clear anodize? Test a small inconspicuous area first. That will be a task to finish
