Pad Usage

gdwenger

Question

While I normally use about three of each of the pads, then clean them up at the end of the project. I was wondering if it's okay to use a damp pad? Could you use a single pad clean it when needed spin it dry/damp and continue on? Those of you that have a pad washer is this something you do?

Strictly my opinion here... Damp pads tend to make a mess because what feels damp to you can turn our to sling water every where. That being said I don't like to spin dry pads because it's not good for the polisher to spin freely and rapidly. Maybe try it at like a 2 or 3 speed (depending on what machine you use) wish a CLEAN grit guard.

Again, just my opinion.

I agree with above, a damp pad to our touch will end up throwing **** all over the place on a machine.

Keep enough clean and dry pads to use for each detail, for Foam pads I need about 2 per vehicle per step (2 for correcting, 2 for polishing, etc)

For MF cutting pads I can get through with 2 pads, but prefer to use 3 as they tend to get gummed up faster even with frequent cleaning after each pass.

Having worked many shows, and a lot of them multiday shows, you come up with ways to clean your equipment fast!  We have put our pads in the oven, at the lowest setting possible, for a few minutes and it drys them right out!

I don't want to recommend it, as it is risky, but just sayin it's been done, and it works!
