Anyone want to take a measurement for me ?(4" DA backing plate)

Ricky Bobby

Question

The 3" backing plate I have on my PC 7424 now is approx 2 7/8" in diameter or so, and it comes with the adapter as it was normally a rotary plate (I think Adam's used to sell these).

The NEW style DA 4" focus plate, can anyone take a diameter measurement for me?

I have some Meguiars 3" MF cutting pads at home which the current plate works great on as far as size goes, but when I put on my 4" foam pads (Buff and Shine), you can tell the backing plate is a bit small.

I prefer about a 1/2" bigger pad than plate at the most for control, let me know guys and I'll throw one in on my next Adam's order!

Also, Nick can you let me know if the Orange MF cutting pads (4") are back in stock yet?

I don't have the Adam's backing plate but the lake country backing plate I use with 4" pads is 3.5".  I would figure it's about the same siz as the Adam's backing plate.  The pads fit on it just fine.  The backing plate you have is ideal for 3" pads.

Yeah that's the one I have 2 7/8" for 3" pads.

Too much room for the 4" pads in my opinion, Kingsford is yours the one with the rotary adapter? If so that's the one I have and is the older style.

The one on Adams website now looks 3.5" but I just wanted to double check, i might just grab the 3.5 LC pad depending on where I get my new polisher from, I don't want to use the 2 7/8 plate with 4" pads

Ya mine comes apart. Never realized there was a new version because I bought 2 of the old ones (one for drill one for DA) so I didn't have to switch the backs.

Did they start making the 4" pads bigger or is it not a true 4" pad? I haven't ordered some in a while.

yes the 3" backing plates are usually right around 2 7/8", a little more "give" for the 4" pads.

I have a lake country 3.5" plate I'm using on 4" foam pads (mostly BnS) and it works great
