K2XX wheel wells?

So I bought a 2014 Silverado z71 double cab last month and I absolutely love the thing. I've never had a new car before and I'm trying to keep it as new as possible for as long as possible despite the fact that I have to put tons of miles on it for work.

 

My dim-witted question for the detailing community is this: how do y'all K2XX owners clean your wheel wells? Mine have got that funny black, almost carpet-like stuff lining them (I'm pretty sure it's for sound insulation).  So far, I've washed the truck a couple of times and really only rinsed the wheel wells out and wiped the dust/road grit out with a damp microfiber cloth. I'm afraid to use chemicals on the stuff because I'm not sure what the effect would be. Would APC be too harsh on the stuff?

The cars I detail that have the felt like wheel wells just get sprayed down with the pressure washer thoroughly. Never needed to do anything more aggressive other than occasionally brush them with a carpet brush to get the stubborn stuff out.

One of my cars has it and all I do is spray it down with water until the water runs clear.  I have never had an issue to where I have had to brush them out or use a brush on them.

They are be a bit different to care for than plastic-lined wheel wells, as you've noticed.

 

Blasting them out with water, either from a hose or a pressure washer, is the easiest method for maintenance. If they are heavily soiled, a stiff bristled brush and some 50/50 APC or CUC will pull out any left over crud the hose didn't get.
