Checking In From Long Island, NY

Recommended Posts

Hey folks, Mike here from Commack, LI.

Recently turned to a friend who is known for his fanatic tendencies in keeping his Audi pristine, in asking about his product and routine he directed me to Warren over at Detailers Garage in Queens,NY. Warren took some time to get me set up with the basics for a good clean, and just last week I placed a second order for the supplies to take my detail to the next level. I'm not up to any machine work yet, but may delve in soon.

I've always been a Meguiar's guy having thought it was the best stuff I could get my hands on when I needed it. Walk into the store, grab some stuff and walk out.

Warren set me up with a mix of supplies, mostly Adams stuff. Though, admittedly two Sonax products did make their way into my cache. (Should I prepare for shun?)

I've got a 1977 VW Westfalia, and a 2013 Beetle, as well as a 1996 Explorer that is the around town "Home Depot" and winter car. So, it will be the test dummy for my soon-to-come machine polish practice!

Today, I did a nice clean on my 13 Beetle, feel free to let me know if I should modify my routine!

I started with the car in the shade, a carport attached to one of the garages at my house.

I had three buckets, one with my All Purpose Cleaner and a dedicated microfiber mitt

A second with my grit guard and just water

The third with Sonax Shampoo and a grit guard as well as it's own microfiber mitt

I misted the car down and gave it a spray with the foam gun.

Again rinsed the car to remove any loose debris and then washed each panel with the all purpose cleaner to remove any old wax and detail spray.

Next, I did the standard two-bucket method to wash the car down, rinsing each panel as I went to keep the car from drying in the 80 degree weather.

I used APC to clean the wheels and fender wells.

With the whole car cleaned I moved into the garage and clayed the whole car using what water remained on the car as well as Adams Detail Spray and about 1/3 of an Adams clay bar.

After clay, I wiped the car down with detail spray and a soft microfiber just to remove any dried clay residue that I may have missed and polished the car with Adams Revive and a blue hex grip. I went in a cross pattern.

With the polish off the car, I applied my sealant (more Sonax action here - sorry!) NetShield with a red applicator.

Once that was dried and buffed off I applied Adams Brilliant Glaze. I wasn't entirely prepared for how thin the product was, and feel as if I may have been a bit liberal with the application at first but once I had a moist applicator, and could see a thin film of the product on the paint surface I knew it was ok to use less and less product to just "maintain" a level of the glaze on the applicator.

With the glaze hazed and buffed off I applied two thin coats of Americana wax.

VRT on the tires and rear diffuser.

Also did the interior, but admittedly not with any Adams product. Hadn't known Adams had offered interior supplies and will be ordering up some Interior Detailer, Leather and Interior Cleaner, as well as reading up on the In & Out Spray. What's it's purpose?

Sorry for the less than stellar pics, it got dark out!

Welcome to the forum Mike!  We were probably all Megs guys at one time. Then we realized that cheaper isn't better. You can't beat these Adam's products.  Nice cars and nice job!!

I'm hooked already Scottyboy!

I had taken my 77 to work but had the 13 out for a spin when I got home.

I parked in front of the garage and proceeded to wipe the car down with detail spray!

It was JUST washed!

It's just enjoyable, and relaxing to be outside and I feel like - even after just a simple detail spray wipe down, I have accomplished so,tithing and lowered my blooded pressure!

I love this stuff!

Already looking at a few other products I want to try!
