Wheel Gunk And Scratches

Agbull

Question

Hello all.

Just had new Michellin Pilot Super Sports put on my 2011 Audi S4.  Problem is that the installers don't/didn't love my car as much as I do!  They left the glue gunk on the barrel from the old balancing weights and there is scratching around the area where they removed the old balancing weights.  Any suggestions out there on how to effectively get rid of the glue gunk as well as the scratches?

Thanks in advance.

The Glue Gunk, 3M Adhesive Remover. The scratches, are your wheels original equipment or aftermarket? If aftermarket are they clear coated? If they're original wheels, they're most likely clear coated just like the vehicles finish. Just like the vehicles finish, if you can catch an edge of the scratch with a fingernail it's too deep to remove by simply polishing.

Thanks for the input BRZN. I will pick-up some of the 3M and give it a try. Yes, these are OEM wheels but I just checked and it doesn't seem as if my finger nail catches. If that's the case, what can I try for removal? Thanks.

OEM wheels with clear coat over the aluminum? Teat them just like paint. I'd recommend working the scratches by hand first using PCP and an Orange Polish Applicator. If that does the job follow up with Revive Hand Polish and a Blue Polish Applicator. If you need more bite than you can get by hand use a cordless drill with either a Mother's brand Power Ball or Cone to reach the spot shown in the picture. Start with PCP and finish with PFP. Be careful, there's not much clear on the wheel!
