Train Wreck... Need Help!

BitterGreg

Question

My wife and I just bought her Grandfathers 05 Camry XLE with only 45,000 miles on it. We got a crazy good deal, as we bought it for about 2 grand less than the trade in amount they would have relieved.

The interior is in tip top shape. The outside on the other hand is a disaster. The car has been driven very little if at all the past 1.5 years, and I do not think it was washed in that entire time.

I have a '14 Sontata Limited Turbo, so my detailing is really kind of easy. I have attached a few pictures below of the black stuff that is caked on through out the car. It almost looks like rust spots, but it is actually ontop of the clear coat, as I can use my finger/finger nail to rub it away. What I am worried about is a, scratching the paint to hell when I wash it, b, im not even sure washing it will get all of this off, c, I have Revive, but do not have another polish or a machine polisher as I dont need it with a brand new car.

Any tips on getting this back to normal. The paint appears to be in pretty good shape outside of these spots. Any tips or pieces of advice, or a 2 bucket wash, clay, Revive, Glaze, and Americana get it to its best possible state?

Thank you in advance.

For those spots, I'd spray it with Deep Wheel Cleaner to see if its iron particles, if it doesnt turn red within about 30 seconds just rinse it off.

Revive polish by hand will prob take it out if its not iron, but the fact you said its on the surface leads me to think its bonded contaminants.  Try a clar bar first!

Looks like it could be mold. Especially around the gas filler door. Some APC and agitate it with a soft brush, wash, clay, polish and then your choice of LSP!

Keep us posted!

First, thanks for the advice, second, should I dilute the APC, someone mentioned that before? Third, I'm guessing the boars hair brush would be ok, or would something a little more stout like a fender brush be better? Forth I have no idea what LSP is. And finally I will tackle it Sunday and will post pics

It's always best to try the least aggressive method first, so try the APC diluted, and if that isn't working then go full strength.

The Boars Hair Brush would work perfect.

LSP = Last Step Product. This means whatever you top your car with, sealants, wax, etc.

Good luck with it!
