PT3
I know pollen is 'barbed'... So can it cause scratches, swirls, Etc...? Is it worse than just plain 'dirt'...? Hoping DVK can drop some science here...?
0 Team Adam's
SOME pollen is barbed... and the reason (I've been told) is so it sticks to things like the legs of a bee like velcro so it can be spread around. Genius! Nature is awesome. It all varies though... thru evolution each plant has developed cool ways to propagate so not all pollen is a barbed, sharp, harbinger of doom - but regardless of shape, they're all small particles that are potentially abrasive. This is daisy pollen... This is pine pollen... and this is passion flower pollen... That being said there really isn't a way to compare ALL pollen to ALL dust/dirt - depending on where you live you will have different types of both things. Your pollen might be extremely abrasive while your dust might not be, or the other way around. Hard to say as it will be unique for wherever you live. Suffice to say - ALL particulate on your finish carries with it the potential to do damage, so the best course of action is always to remove as much as possible without touching if you can. A master blaster helps me out a ton when the pine pollen starts to fly here in CO. I just blow off most of it. Assuming there is a good layer of sealant you should be able to knock the majority of it loose. The rest comes down to good technique and properly saturating the contamination to reduce the chances of swirls.
0 Performance Auto Detailing
Can pollen cause scratches and swirls?? Absolutely! Pollen is abrasive like dirt is.
0 Ricky Bobby
^^Good knowledge D and yes at this time of year, an electric PW is your friend for a nice blasting of the pollen off. Hell, if you rinse it daily and blowdry with a Master Blaster so no water spots you may be able to get away with it for a few days without touching it at all. 0 red94chev
The nozzle that comes with the foam gun has some pretty decent power to it also. I've been able to blast off a lot of the crap that my 33" mud tires throw up the side of the truck before I start washing.

0 stripesace
Revving an old thread. Even after pulling in the garage to dry and finish my wife's SUV today when I backed it out to reposition vehicles the thing was already COVERED in pollen. Torn on how to tackle. With such a fresh wash I'm tempted to just hose it down and master blaster it dry or give it a proper waterless treatment. My car after sitting out all day might as well be yellow.... 0 Ace22
Pollen has been my enemy in my area since day one of owning a black car. Personal preference is a synthetic sealant vs. anything with carnuba in it. I have Patriot Wax and loved the shine/look, but man day one was covered with pollen. My current regimen is to seal with liquid sealant and maintain with waterless wash/H20 Guard and gloss.
