Is there a coating or something for the Dishes/Barrels on C6 corvette chrome wheels?

bosco1

Question

Is there a coating or something to help keep the Dishes/barrels on C6 corvette chrome wheels clean??? The barrels on My C5 wheels were finished and polished and were easy to maintain. But GM did us no favors with the chrome C6 wheels. The dishes/barrels are unfinished and rough. Brake dust is a headache to clean up. I'm sure changing to a ceramic pad would help but in the mean time any advice would be greatly appreciated.

tks, dan

If I had chrome wheels I'd give that a try.  I'm just wondering what the results will be a year from now though. Rust? Pitting?  You'll have to keep us up to date.   And be sure to post pics before and after!

Read the article here posted here regarding removing the gray paint from the barrels, and a quote is below:

There should probably be a warning on page 1 of this thread...

When you remove the paint from the wheel barrels, there is no guarantee that the chrome underneath will be presentable. Significant chrome flaws in the barrels will
NOT
prevent a wheel from making it out of the factory since the flaws will be painted over.

I just spent some time yesterday cleaning and sealing mine with Adam's Deep Wheel Cleaner, and Quick Sealant.

Granted, not as shiny as the chromed, but still very clean, and easy to clean during normal washes using the Wheel Woolies and Turbo Stick on any area where brake dust or road grime / tar may have accumulated.

Agreed! There must be a reason why GM paints the barrels, good luck
