Another puzzling stain!

Question

My wife's Enclave has some stains on the lower part of the front bumper. I have tried everything to get this off but I have no clue what it is!

They have been there since we got it. They don't stand out unless you get close but it bothers me that I can't get it off!

This too has happened on my wife's acadia. I gave the car a good washing, HGG, SVRT the trim and then the streaking appeared.

Dylan, on the front of his car (and mine) there is a plastic piece of chrome looking trim above the black plastic facia on the front of the car. This piece is below the grill. It's about 1-3/4" tall and close to 3-1/2' long

Interesting, looks like some water, detergents, oils, etc baked on from automatic car washes, etc.

Why are you using polishes on it?  Looks just like smooth lower plastic bumper trim to me.

I'd be using bug/tar remover, Tarminator, stronger cleaners and cleaning the trim similar to the VRT videos if anything.

My theory?  Since I've seen a lot of these vehicles in person

Its the type of plastic being used and unfortunately those stains are "Baked in" to the bumper, because its a less porous plastic than most other lower textured plastics on cars.  You can bring back the color with dressing but I don't think you'll get those stains out.  Thats a smooth type of black plastic, not textured, so any imperfections such as hard water drying on the plastic, bugs getting baked on there, dirty rain water dripping down and baking in from the sun, is probably going to stay.

I posted a thread recently with odd drip marks we couldn't get out of the black plastic trip on a MINI. According to my brethren on the MINI club site it is actually cosmoline. I read somewhere that it isn't supposed to be used anymore but some brands are still using it in very specific places, under the hood itself (not in the engine bay, but the actual hood) seems to be the most common.

On the one I posted the dealership has ordered new trim and is replacing it. They are not admitting that it is cosmoline or anything else for that matter, just replacing the trim.

Cosmoline comes off with APC pretty easily. I've never had an issue.

I think the issue with mine was that it actually etched the plastic. By the time I figured out it was a substance dripping from the car and not left over water ruining my SVRT application it had been there for years.

On my friend's car, the dealership immediately offered to replace the trim so she said sure. I think when she saw the permanent mark on my MINI she got worried. She has ordered the APC and will keep on top of the new trim. But I'm hoping the fact that the dealership flushed out said areas will mean it's a non-issue for her.
