Turning Matte Black Rims into Gloss Black

speeddemon

Question

I apologize if this has been discussed already but I did a couple searches and nothing came up.  I have my eye set on a set of rims but they only come in a matte black finish and I really want them to be gloss black.  Is there a way (without powdercoating or painting) to get the finish to a glossy black?  I have read about possibly wet sanding with a high grit and clear coating.  Would that work?  could I possibly get away with doing a polishing cycle on them with my porter cable?

If you are willing to clearcoat then painting is not much work to add to it realistically speaking.

I cant say for sure but you can always try some of the products if you have them and see what type of shine you can get. The LPS does offer a fair shine and you can probably top that with something to help add to it.
