Question

I have a few questions....

1. In general.. how long do the applicators last. I know it depends on use, like the tire shine applicators will shread sooner than the blue reveive. Is there a general consensus?

2. The Americana applicator oozes wax for ever while cleaning... when is enough enough to say it's clean, and am I using to much during the application process. This was used on two cars and just keep oozing. See pic.

3. How often do you replace the VRT foam blocks?

BTW...I have seen the Shine Doc video, caring for your foam pads...

Thanks guys

I have had the yellow applicator for almost 6 months and it's still going great! I have had the tire shine applicator for a couple months and I see a tiny spot that has some wear but nothing big!

They look like they will last a long time.

You're putting too much wax on your pads!!  That should all be on your car.

In general, when they stop performing, or getting hard, or you can't get the pads clean any more, then they need replaced.

That does seem like an abnormal amount of Americana coming out of that applicator. Americana and Patriot Wax should be applied very thin, in that you barely see much wax on the applicator to start. Even a very small amount should spread over a 2 foot by 2 foot area or so, and the wax will almost appear invisible on the paint surface until it starts to haze over after 5 or 10 minutes.

Applying it thick just ends up using an unnecessary amount of wax and makes it more difficult for removal.

What they said^^^^

The tire applicators begin to deteriorate after a few months, but will still work even when the 'peaks' have mostly worn down.  The other applicators last for along time, if they are cleaned soon after use.

I use dish washing soap (dawn) couple drops and run it in the sink. Just keep squeezing it until clear water runs out. As for the foam blocks, I cut them in half. They don't last very long.

I will also chime in and say that's way to much wax coming out of the applicator. As mentioned above, I also use Dawn and or Adams All Purpose Cleaner and HOT water as it will break down the used products faster.

I never wash my VRT blocks or my tire applicator, I keep both in containers and reuse, I'm testing my tire applicator to see how long it will last because my one dollar cotton sponge lasted well over a year.

How far along are you, Joe?

P.S. That's not a question to ask a female you don't know...

Ryan, I want to ask you about the red applicator, I hope your not storing it in your tub of paste wax when not your in use because it will absorb all your wax and be very wasteful, just an FYI thought.

I put mine in a freezer zip lock, have one for tire shine and one for vrt. from my experience the vrt lasts longer than the tire shine applicator. I usually get 6 to 8 months of use before replacing.

This also happened to me the first time I used Americana.  Guess I got carried away and was putting way too much on the applicator.  Good to know for next time!
