H enriquez
been looking at all the how to videos and came across on how its a good idea to use paint sealant on your everyday ride. since i have used buttery wax already, do i need to strip wax and then apply sealant? 0 Dan@Adams
Hi Henry, thanks for signing up to the forum! You could use Strip Wash if you have it to remove the layer of Buttery Wax, but Buttery Wax typically lasts about 1-2 months per application on a daily driver, so if you don't need to immediately apply the Paint Sealant, you could wait a bit longer, then do a full wash-dry-clay bar process and then apply Paint Sealant afterward. I would recommend applying Paint Sealant to the bare, clean paint for best results. Be sure to avoid any textured plastic trim areas as well, since it can potentially stain or discolor trim pieces. 0 Nickfire20
To my knowledge, sealant adheres best directly to the paint surface. It will work, but not for the intended duration of the product, if you place it over top of a wax. Edit-Apparently Dan hit the post button a few seconds before me Edited June 7, 2017 by Nickfire20
0 falcaineer
Agreed on having a naked paint surface before applying the PS. One quick tip on textured plastic areas that Dan mentioned...apply VRT to all your trim after the strip wash, before clay. It'll make removing any residue from clay/polish/sealant/etc. much easier when you're done, likely with just a swipe of a MF towel. Then, touch up any necessary parts of the trim to finish the job. 0 Nathan
I would recommend stripping any existing sealant or wax before applying PS. You could use Adams Strip Wash or add 1-2 oz APC to your normal shampoo.
