Hi All -- Since there are so many Vette guys on here I thought I'd post this up and see if anyone has any ideas. I've also posted it on Corvette Forum, but honestly I think I'd trust advice I go here more.

Anyway, ZI have a puzzling brake problem. My car is a 1999 Corvette with about 53K miles on it. I was running around yesterday, just doing some errands, and everything was fine. I parked the car for a few minutes, ran into a store, and came back out about 15 minutes later. I fired up the car, backed out of my spot, and immediately noticed that the brakes were very soft. I still had stopping power if I really pushed the pedal all the way to the floor, but it felt scary.

I pulled over in the next parking lot and checked the fluid. The level was fine, but there was about a tablespoon or so of fluid on top of the reservoir (and dripping down the sides). I wiped it all clean and drove home with the reduced braking ability. The cap didn't seem super-snug on the reservoir, but it wasn't falling-off lose, either – I think that may be normal?

Today I bleed the system, using the car's speedbleeders and going through about 2/3s of a quart of fresh new fluid. (about 15-20 good pumps per wheel). I took the car for a short ride and the brake pedal seemed better, but not as firm as I remember it. I could stomp on the pedal and get the ABS to kick in, but that was at the very end of the pedal travel. There was no repeat of the fluid showing up on the reservoir -- it was clean and dry.

Anyone have any ideas on this? Did I just not bleed the system enough? Master cylinder going? Any idea why fluid would have suddenly expelled onto the top of the reservoir?
