Here is a US Army Veteran, Jim Brossard, who cut down a US-Flag that was flying below one of Mexico. :patriot:

Thanks Chris! Been crazy busy lately, as this time of year typically is for us. Very exciting new products are in the pipeline, and the shows are looking great as well.

Thanks Chris, and it's good to be back!

good for him I dont have a problem with them flying their flag but it doesnt belong on top of the american flag I hope they award the guy a medal for it. too many people have died to fly that flag and if they want to come to the country legally then they can but if your in america be an american.

Must agree with you Bill. I speak Spanish fluently, and am not prejudiced against hard working, self-supporting people. My Dad has a condo in Mexico, and at his house, the Red, White, and Green flag flies on top of the Stars and Stripes.

Many of my college friends and employees came from Mexico, and if I was born there, I'd likely want to come to our great nation too.

Still: This is America. The American Flag goes on top in this country. :patriot:

I tend to agree with Jason, however I see a large irony at play here. why would any Mexican national want to fly the Mexican flag above the American flag if they are in the US and benefiting from its jobs, infrastructure, etc? it makes no sense. kind of like biting the hand that feeds you. I understand loyalty and patriotism, but lets get real here; if you come to this county and enjoy the work/other stuff you get here, dont make the locals mad at you and want to take away that which you enjoy...

It is a law that no flag shall be flown above the American flag. However, a few things are wrong with this situation:

  • Only 50% of the story was given. For all we know (and what is probably the case), the guy didn't know he was doing anything illegal. Most natural-born Americans aren't even familiar with flag law let alone a Mexican shop owner in Reno.
  • Instead of publicly wielding a knife, maybe the gentleman in the video could have explained to the shop owner that flying the flags like that was illegeal, disrespectful, and should be corrected immediately.
  • Cutting the flags down broke the law as well.
  • Nationalism != Patriotism
  • The Mexican-American War ended in 1848

Freedom of speech even though we may not like it is better than limited freedom of speech. Just my 2 cents.

Jason, they could have sprung a seperate pole and posted it next to it...anything but over it. i have no problem with other creeds and religions. but I dont disagree at all with the point he made. ALOT of people(including you my friend) served and fought for this country. If we allow others to come in and push us to the side and below...in my opinion, and again i state in my opinion...we have dishonored everyone that has fought and died for that flag and better yet, for my children and belittled the symbol that this country looks to.

wow...had to edit myself, i was typing a campaign stance... I wont use Adams forum for that. Thank you for allowing us to state our beleifs though Adam. And thanks for posting that video, i liked it.

also, based on the 50% portion, do we know if there wasnt an outcry raised prior to him cutting it down and the lawbreakers...errr lawmakers saying they can do what they want on private(even though a storefront is public) property?

:iagree: Cutting down of the flag may have been an emotional over reaction. If he merely saw it, got pissed , grabbed his knife and cut it down he needs to learn anger management. However, if he saw this, pointed it out to the store owner and received a smart *** responce then its a different ball game. However, I do not agree with vigilante law. There are better ways in this country to resolve issues----The civilized way is the basis of America and does not include knive wielding. What the guy with the knife did was a worse example of what this country is not about !!

I don't have a problem with the guy taking the flags down, but it really wasn't necessary to cut either flag. Furthermore, he was also showing disrespect when he threw the Mexican flag to the ground. Neither flag deserves to be treated in that manner. Obviously, the American flag should always be flown on top but we also have to control our anger.

Over the years, I have complained to many people about the torn and faded flags they have been flying. Most replaced the flags immediately and were actually thankful that I had pointed out that their flags were not proper. Even cities are not respectful. I sent an e-mail to the Mayor of a city in St Louis County complaining about the faded flags flying over their Vietnam Memorial. The flags were replaced the next day and have been flying properly ever since.

I fly a flag 24 hours a day in my front yard. The neighbors all think I'm crazy but that is just the way I am. Here is a pic of my front yard with the flag flying proudly.

Right, wrong, or whatever I'm glad he did it. Maybe that makes me a little prejudice but I'm getting tired of the Mexican people pushing their culture on us. If they are going to come here they need to melt into the American culture just like the European immigrants did 100 years ago and before. We are the melting pot of the world, not the stew.

I have no problem with anyone flying their country flag or have pride about where they came from but if they come here they better respect our culture and flag.

Nice shot of the house Les.. I too fly the flag 24/7. It's replaced annually and the old one given to the local Boy Scouts for them to decommission "properly".

Wow,, Pretty harsh Jason ...

Being a second generation Italian I know that we held onto our culture, ( and still do ) as did Germans, Irish, French,,, ( well maybe not the French ;) )

We never thought of ourselves as "pushing" our culture on others, but I know that all people of ethnic backgrounds were shunned when their numbers grew here.

There is a lot to be learned from people of other backgrounds. Try and see it as an oppurtunity to expand your knowledge of the world we live in.

See there is the difference though. You didn't push your culture on others. I don't see Italian or German under the English on the menu at resturauts, legal documents, etc etc. I don't see any Italians trying to push the local school district to offer spanish speaking classes. (not spanish class mind you) It's things like that which bother me. Not immigrants coming here for a better life.

My family came from Europe (Germany and Ireland) to here in the early 1900s, we melted into the society and became American. I don't think it's too much to ask that others do the same.

I do agree with one thing and thats he shouldnt have just drop the mexican flag like that if you want them to show respect to the flag then you should at least respect theres by handing it to them or something but i still think he just reacted and honestly if more people waved the flag like they did after 9/11 it would have bothered more people but they forgot already so it comes down to this guy.

I don't see why some of you are trying to save the illegal mexican. We need more people in this country like that veteran, then USA would not be so soft and we would not let people walk all over us. Not enough people stand up for our country, but people like this veteran make up for the people that would let something like that go on!!!:patriot:

I salute him. Too many of us don't have brass to do what he did. About time we start taking this country back!!

:iagree: Although he could have respected their flag. I am not against immigration by any means as long as it's LEGAL and they pay into the system like an AMERICAN. This country loses so much money to illegal immigrants and it makes me sick. It's just sad that we can't say the Pledge of Allegiance in our schools because there is an immigrant that doesn't approve, you moved here, get over it. If I moved to a different country I would honor their heritage and abide by their laws.

I appreciate the guy's way of thinking but his approach to solving the problem was out of line. The storeowner was just trying to run a business, and most likely thought that the Mexican flag would help establish him in the Mexican community in that part of town. I'm guessing the fact that he had the American flag up shows that he had some pride in being in the US, too. I'd be willing to bet that he just didn't know the protocol for displaying flags. So instead of someone reaching out and trying to correct him, he now just thinks most Americans are a$$holes.

The whole legal/illegal immigration is one thing worthy of its own discussion, but this flag thing is just an instance of two people missing an opportunity to be civil toward each other. And really, that's a big problem in this country, too.
