Graphene Advanced - 2nd Coat Question

Question

Posted

Hello Fellow Car Care Givers,

DIY'er been lurking/researching for awhile but finally want/need advice for my particular situation.

2015 Porsche Cayman 981.  BLACK.

Decided on the Adams Graphene Advanced coating (bottle) for this project.

This time did a more aggressive Color Correction .. ..considering the Adams Graphene Ceramic coating was the goal.

Performed the application in my garage where lighting was less than optimal  ..ended up with some high spots that were clearly visible on a cloudy day.

Fixed 'em all and am really happy with the overall results.

The coating has been on for ~1 month and the car has not been washed but was hit with one round of the Adams Graphene Detail Spray.

Since then, have noticed a few small streaks on the hood I'd like to resolve.  Nothing crazy as I'm certainly the only one that notices..(OCD!).

So the question is:

  • OK to recoat the hood (n' maybe the top of the car) with another coat from the bottle?

Some info. on this forum indicates it might be too late for a recoat.    Is true?

What if I did a light re-polish and recoat?

Thanks!

Pretty much, true. Another coat won't be worth it, the bottom layer will essentially reject the upper. If you still have some steaks, at this point try hand polishing with a white foam pad and some Polish, that should remove them without really affecting the rest. Use the GDS every couple of weeks or so, and/or Graphene CS3 every couple of months or Graphene Boost every several months.

Thanks Falcon.

Took  your advice and went around the entire car with the GDS one more time.

Smoothed out those streaks on the hood a little further.

Been thinking maybe time for a wash cycle ..but the shine and reflection is so crazy the neighbors will think I'm nuts!

Gonna roll with the GDS for now.

Thanks again.

Awesome! My guess is the streaks may re-emerge and if they do, consider hand polishing as I outline above. Let us know, we are here to help.

Got some pics after another round of Graphene Detail Spray.

I'm still getting used to the extreme reflection off the car..its definitely the next level in shine.  Clouds play tricks with my eyes.

Its been 6 weeks+ since application so will Wash > Boost > GDS again soon (just because).

The glossy feel to touch isn't there but the crazy shine is off the scale and it gets noticed.

So after 2.5 months since the Graphene Ceramic Coating application, finally felt there was cause to put the car through a wash cycle.  Only because of a slight dust build up on top of the car and a small splattering of bug guts.  Otherwise the car still had massive shine.

It had been a warm sunny day (temps in the 80's), so did the power wash at sundown using Adams Car Shampoo (blue stuff).

Experienced two new things with this wash.

  • The shampoo came out of my foam cannon thicker than I've ever seen.:o  Not sure why.  Have had the shampoo sitting in the foam cannon container for a few months (which holds 33oz and can provide 3 wash cycles).
  • The foam stuck to the car like crazy.  Have never seen that happen either.  Maybe I finally got it right!  Dunno.  The car was entirely covered in thick foam that was sticking to the surface really well.

The Adams Car Shampoo is the best car wash soap I've ever used.. n' I've been using a power washer and foam cannon since 2017.  Have tried many other car shampoo's and Adams is far and away the best.  I'm almost out of the blue stuff so will likely try the Adams Graphene Car Shampoo next.

Anyway, here she is again post power wash and another round of Graphene Detail Spray.  Holding her own next to her big sister the Viper.  The shine and reflection is ridiculous!  The hood is like a freakin' mirror.

6 month update!

The crazy mirror shine on the car just keeps getting better.  😎

I was slightly concerned about the lack of a smooth glossy feel of the finish (like from a certain sealant I'd been using) but I got over it.

The shine is undeniably in a league of its own.

Instead of trying CS4 or Boost (or whatever it is to gloss it out..) I decided to go with the Graphene Shampoo and just stick with the Graphene Detail Spray.  N' I'm glad I did!  The Graphene Shampoo made an obvious difference n' seems to have evened out the overall shine.

Any streaks I thought I had are history.

So at this point I've used ~1.33 bottles of the Graphene Detail Spray and performed 2 wash cycles with the Graphene Shampoo.

Got some interesting pics that I can't explain.. therefore it must be magic.

Yesterday was Graphene Shampoo wash cycle #2 (w/wash mit..not the foam cannon cuz its still full of the Blue stuff), followed by another round of Graphene Detail Spray.  Had the Viper up on the QuickJack for some fluid changes and snapped these photos with the phone.

The pinstripe lines on the Porsche are legit, but I think the smears are reflections of the Viper being elevated plus some light aberrations.

Kinda freaky, kinda cool.  Check the mirror reflection on the rear bumber of the Porsche..

The Graphene Adv. Ceramic coating is absolutely INSANE!
